2018 Statewide Highlights
|
2018 was a busy year for adult education in California! Below are some statewide highlights per the California Community College Chancellor's Office (CCCCO).

Other key accomplishments:
- CAEP Member Agency Reporting: In 2017/18, 348 AEP consortia members submitted data through CASAS TOPSpro Enterprise. This included 62 community colleges, 250 K12 adult schools, 5 ROPs, 2 libraries, 5 jail programs, and 23 county offices of education.
- Training and Technical Assistance: CAEP increased the provision of professional development and technical assistance to the field.
- Adult Education Field Teams: CAEP expanded the adult education field team process to six teams that included over 100 practitioners and experts charged with making recommendations to state agencies for improvements in adult education.
- Interagency Collaboration: The California Department of Education and the Chancellor's Office worked closely with other California state agencies to increase the alignment of services and data metrics for adult learners in California.

California Adult Education 3-Year Planning Webinar Miniseries

In preparation for the June 7, 2019 due date for California Adult Education Program (CAEP) three-year plans, the CAEP Office, in collaboration with WestEd, AIR and TAP, is offering a three-part webinar miniseries beginning in mid-January.

Three new e-trainings are available to support implementation of English language proficiency (ELP) standards - and academic content standards - for adult English Language Learners (ELL).
These ready-to-use e-learning courses will get you started in using ELP standards to support ELLs' academic language development and engagement in content-area instructional activities.

Workforce Connection Offers Solar Training Program

Fresno Workforce Connection is offering a Solar Installations Basics Training Program beginning in February.
This training will prepare participants for an entry level position in the solar industry. Participants will perform construction and electrical basics and demonstrate proper industry-related OSHA safety training.

U.S. Census Bureau Employment Opportunities

Legislative Day
April 8-9, 2019

Make plans to attend CCAE's Leg Day event, beginning on Monday, April 8th in Sacramento. Members and students will be converging on the Capitol to speak with their local legislators.
CCAE is offering two Interactive Leg Day trainings on March 15, 2019 and April 5, 2019. These webinars will cover the necessary knowledge, as well as important tools, for talking with legislators and decision-makers.

End-of-Year Legislative Report for Adult Education
|
The end-of-year report on the implementation and effectiveness of the Adult Education Program - formerly the Adult Education Block Grant Program (AEBG) - in 2016/17 is now available.
The report includes state-level data on student enrollment, outcomes, skill gains, demographics and other data reported under the new adult education data and accountability metrics. In the 2016/17 program year, adult education programs in California served 695,162 unduplicated students, with the largest number of them enrolled in English as a second language/civics programs, followed by adult secondary education programs.

Salary Surfer
|
To help students and their families make important decisions about investing time and money in a college education, the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office, through Salary Surfer, is providing comparative information about the earnings of recent California Community College graduates.
Salary Surfer uses the aggregated earnings of graduates from a five-year period to provide an estimate on the potential wages to be earned two and five years after receiving a certificate or degree in certain disciplines.

USA Learns - Free Online Courses in US Citizenship and English
|
USA Learns is a free website created by the Sacramento County Office of Education to help adults learn English and prepare for U.S. Citizenship.
The website teaches English by providing engaging videos and educational activities. Learners have the opportunity to learn English independently or with the support of their teacher.
Teachers may access the USA Learn for Teachers website that enables adult educators to easily create online courses and monitor their students' progress as they complete the activities and lessons.

Fresno County Library Online Services
|
Another useful tool from the Fresno County Library is the
LearningExpress Library, featuring tutorials, videos and practice tests geared toward helping learners achieve their goals. Depending on their needs, customers can explore different areas such as the Adult Learning Center, the Career Center, and the High School Equivalency Center, as well as others.

CCAE Regional Consortium Directory
|
CCAE is compiling a directory of the most updated adult education providers which will include primary contacts, program areas in which they deliver instruction, and total number of students served. The goal is to strengthen local sharing of best practices by creating a directory of programs that is easy to use.
