A Message from the Head of School
|
|
Mrs. Debra Freeburn, Head of School
|
|
We have many volunteers at The Silver Academy...and quite frankly without them we couldn’t survive. We have volunteers who serve lunch, volunteers who help our students, volunteers who raise funds, volunteers who plan and orchestrate events to educate, entertain, or fundraise, to name a few. But, I must highlight one parent volunteer who is going above and beyond - to raise necessary funds for The Silver Academy.
Scott Rubin, and his team of committed volunteers, have been contacting individuals and giving them the opportunity to invest in the future of our Jewish community of Harrisburg..
.Your
Jewish Community. He is missing 76er’s games and dinners with his wonderful family in order to get the word out ….INVEST IN EITC!!! He’s telling people that you don’t have to be a high roller to make an impact and redirect your state income taxes to support The Silver Academy or the Brenner Family Early Learning Center. There are hundreds of thousands of dollars in state funds available to us. EITC awards dollar for dollar tax credits applicable against the taxpayers tax liability at 90%.
We need you to help us obtain this money!!! It’s an opportunity you don’t want to miss...Please contact Scott Rubin or Samara Sofian at
[email protected]
to find out more. DO NOT miss this incredible chance to invest in the Jewish community of Harrisburg and to make your tax dollars matter.
Shabbat Shalom,
Debra

Inside the Art Classroom
Mrs. Debra Reitmulder
Students love art class at The Silver Academy...take a look at the projects below and you will see why! Mrs. Reitmulder's curriculum is challenging and our young artists love the creativity. In class, students learn to use a host of media to create artwork in many different styles. As new art techniques are introduced, the class also learns about famous artists known for these styles.

Culinary Arts at The Silver Academy
Mrs. Tammy Reid
As always, when we bake it is about more than creating delicious confections. This week as we made hamantashen, we reviewed the upcoming holiday of Purim, performed feats of geometric magic by turning a circle into an equilateral triangle, and delved into spacial relations when the instructions stated, "fold up the bottom edge perpendicular to the top point." We never miss an opportunity to bake outside of the box!

Read Across America and Dr. Seuss's Birthday Celebration
Mrs. Lindsay Hameroff
Last week, our students celebrated Read Across America by participating in Dr. Seuss Spirit Week! Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program led by the National Education Association (NEA). The program calls on communities across the nation to join together and celebrate reading in honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday on March 2nd.
At The Silver Academy, our students celebrated reading with a fun week filled with costumes, prizes, a party for Dr. Seuss's birthday, and of course, reading!
Each day, students were encouraged to dress up in a costume inspired by one of Dr. Seuss's beloved classics. For homework each evening, they were challenged to read in a variety of ways, such as under a table, in a bathtub, or to a pet. Student participation was rewarded with raffle tickets, and during a drawing on Friday, two lucky students won gift cards to our Scholastic Book Fair!
We concluded the week with a party for Dr. Seuss's birthday. Students enjoyed some delicious treats, courtesy of our wonderful PTO, snapped photos, and best of all, got to share a favorite book with a student partner from another grade.
We couldn't have enjoyed this week without our supportive parents and staff, and are so happy that we were able to celebrate together! We can't wait to do it again next year!
