It's been an exciting year in Amberley Village, with lots of changes, progress, enhanced services and events.

Amberley Village Maintenance Crews have extended leaf collection services.
Extensive last-minute leaf pickup in the southern end of the Village has prevented crews from reaching all streets. That combined with recent damaging wind storms, has added to brush piles, leading to continuation of services through January 6.
Please note that leaves placed at the curb by noon on January 6 will be picked up. Leaves placed out after 12:00 p.m. on Monday, January 6 will NOT be collected, but will need to be bagged and put out for Rumpke's regular pick up.
Please note that leaf collection will take precedence over brush through the
remainder of leaf season. Regular Brush Collection will resume on January 6, 2020.

Tips for Smoother Pick Up
|
Maintenance crews make every effort to pick up as much as possible on every route, as do our trash and recycling crews. Help them - and your neighbors - with these important tips!
- Leaves & brush at the curb; not in street
- Garbage & recycling bins at curb; not in street
- Piles should be as close to curb as possible to allow our trucks to reach
- Do NOT blow debris into street, as this clogs sewers
- Call Amberley Village with questions at 531-8675

EMS Services Contracted with City of Reading
|
|
Amberley Village has awarded a new contract for emergency management services to Reading after nearly 40 years with Deer Park-Silverton and Little Miami (formerly Golf Manor).
Amberley Village Police-Fire Chief Richard Wallace stated the decision, while extremely difficult, was made in the best interest of serving Amberley Village residents.
“EMS service costs have increased everywhere, but when this year’s proposal came in at over a 60% increase, we felt it prudent to be good stewards of our residents’ tax dollars” said Wallace. “Reading has an excellent reputation for its fire and EMS services, which we look forward to introducing to our community.”

be first at the scene as it always has, and there is no significant change in response times anticipated. In addition, Reading typically dispatches a greater number of personnel to critical calls, which increases the potential for positive outcomes.
Reading will begin providing EMS services on January 1.

Amberley Village Receives Proclamation
from Board of Health We THRIVE! Initiative
|
|
Amberley Village was recently recognized at an annual recognition ceremony for WeTHRIVE!, a community-based project of Hamilton County Public Health to improve health, safety and vitality across Hamilton County.
One of only ten neighborhoods in Hamilton County celebrating five years as a WeTHRIVE! community, Amberley Village received accolades for its continued focus on the environment, while also launching a new Health & Wellness Team.
Amberley Village was lauded for its 7th Annual One Stop Drop Event, which collected 42.8 tons of materials for recycling, an increase of 69 percent over last year. Our Environmental Stewardship Committee was recognized for its Clean the Green events, as well as for partnership with the Cincinnati Parks pollinator program.
The Health & Wellness Team partnered with the JCC to bring free yoga classes to the Village, and is currently exploring additional partnership opportunities.
Congratulations to all who participated and contributed to this exciting recognition! Stop by the Municipal Building and check out the Proclamation, which is displayed just outside council chambers.

Maintenance Department Recognized for Support During Beavercreek Tornado Cleanup
|
|
Congratulations to the Amberley Village Maintenance Department for its recent recognition from the City of Beavercreek. A proclamation, signed thank you photo and commemorative trading coins were delivered in appreciation of the work our crews put in to assist with post-tornado cleanup this past May.
Maintenance Supervisor Tony Chesney accepted the recognition on behalf of the entire maintenance department at the December 9 Council Meeting. Mayor Tom Muething presented the items from Beavercreek before a full Council Chamber, which responded with a round of applause.
Amberley Village was one of 34 government agencies that sent
staff, trucks, and equipment in the tornado aftermath, according to the

LIVE TREES
Amberley Village Maintenance Crews will collect and chip live trees as part of its regular brush recycling program. Please remove any foreign materials and bags before placing at the curb.

Great Parks will accept used and broken lights through Feb. 2. Sharon Woods is the closest participating park location to Amberley Village, but a complete list is

BATTERIES
Do not place batteries in trash, recycle bins or containers, as these can be a fire hazard.Check out this handy battery disposal guide from
HamiltonCountyRecycles.org!

Scrap It Up, located in Pleasant Ridge, accepts donations of recyclable materials that can be re-purposed by others for craft projects, home improvements and more. Fabric, ribbon, ornaments and holiday crafts are great examples of items the local non-profit accepts, keeping them out of landfills and giving them a second life. 2020 Community Garden Applications
Now Available!
|
|
Amberley Village is now accepting applications for the 2020 gardening season! Amberley Green hosts 36 garden plots for the April – November growing season, complete with deer fencing, access to a garden cart and water, and friendly gardeners to share in the experience. Plot size is 9 x 15, and rental cost for the season is just $50. Organic practices are utilized, so no pesticides or other chemicals are permitted. As a hub garden of the Civic Garden Center, monthly demonstrations of garden techniques and cooking ideas for produce are planned.

with the subject header “Garden,” or simply drop off at the Administration window in the Municipal Building. Hard copies are also available at the Administration offices.
Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, with preference given to current gardeners through year's end. Applications must include payment to be considered complete. Thirty-six plots are available, and applications are accepted until all plots are filled. We look forward to seeing you in the garden!

Council Continues Work on
Zoning Code for Amberley Green
|

December 17 marked the fourth Council Work Session regarding Amberley Green.

Members of Council met again on December 17 for their fourth Work Session regarding plans for Amberley Green. The Work Session marked the third effort to establish language for what will become new zoning code for the property, allowing development on the site. Next steps will include two public meeting opportunities for residents to weigh in, including one meeting of the Planning Commission, and a second with the Village Council.

Human Rights Commission Seeks To Fill Empty Seat
|
|
The Human Rights Commission will specifically focus on studying discrimination, collaborating with the diverse groups of the Village, and developing programs for formal and informal education to raise public awareness, all in order to insure that Amberley continues to reflect the values of mutual understanding and respect.
The five-member commission has been appointed in accordance with the
ordinance
and had its first meeting on March 13, 2019. The commission is deeply committed to addressing any instances of discrimination that might occur in Amberley. It also seeks to enhance education about discrimination and demonstrate that Amberley is an open and welcoming community.
Meetings of the commission are public and the commission encourages residents to be involved. We want to hear your stories about living in Amberley so we can celebrate our successes and address any concerns.

No Posting on Utility Poles in the Village:
Even for Lost Pets
|
|
Amberley Village Police Department has recently received several complaints regarding flyers being ppsted on utility poles throughout the Village, particularly with regard to lost pets.
Please remember that utility poles are the property of the utility companies, and are not authorized posting places. Social media outlets are more effective resources for locating lost pets, with Nextdoor leading the pack for Amberley Village neighbor interaction.
Kindly leave the utility poles to the utility companies, and utilize services such as those linked below.
Lost pets can also be reported to Amberley Village Police-Fire at 531-2040.

Safety Tip: Porch & Outdoor Lights Prevent Crime
|
|
Outdoor lights help make for an easy crime deterrent at night. While motion-sensing lights are by far the best option, simply leaving a porch light on along with the back door or side door lights works very well. Criminals don’t usually like to break down a door or bust out a window if they can be seen. Leaving on an outdoor light is one way to draw attention to them.

Ohio Community Wildlife Cooperative
Hosts Annual Conference
|
|
Representatives from Amberley Village, including Village Manager Scot Lahrmer, and Police Officers Chris Fritsch and Nick Mercer, recently attended a conference regarding wildlife in urban settings. Of particular interest this time of year is the importance of cohabitating with coyotes during their mating season, which typically occurs from late January through March.
Take a moment to learn more about coyotes in the domestic landscape. You'll be surprised to know they are extremely adaptable, which is why you see them more and more during the day. It's not necessarily that there are more coyotes; they are just adapting to their less-nocturnal surroundings!

at the Amberley Village Municipal Building, located at 7149 Ridge Road.
The next scheduled meeting will be held on Monday, January 13 at 6:30 pm in Council Chambers.
