Red Wing Alumni Prevail in Annual Hockey Night in Westland Event

Westland, MI - The 10th Annual Hockey Night in Westland drew a record breaking crowd who watched as the Wild Wings battled it out against the Detroit Red Wing alumni.

Over 1,000 fans watched as Red Wing greats like Darren McCarty, Drew Miller, John Ogrodnick, and Mickey Redmond took the ice alongside former University of Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson and Michigan native and lifetime Wings fan Dave Coulier of the hit TV show Full House. The team fought to maintain their undefeated record in Westland. While the Wild Wings put in a great effort, the alumni allstars proved to be too great. The Wild Wings were defeated with a final score of 9-7.

"The Wild Wings could really feel the enthusiasm of the crowd this year," commented Mayor Wild, who was joined on the ice by his 16 year old son, Luke. "I think we came closer than ever to bringing home a victory, but as always, the real winners are the girls and boys youth athletic programs that utilize the arena."

The final numbers for this year's fundraiser are still being tallied. To date, the event has raised nearly $200,000. Proceeds from this year's event will contribute to the renovation of the lobby at the Mike Modano Ice Arena.
