Herbicide Training for Volunteers
Libertyville Township will be hosting a Volunteer Herbicide Training on
Saturday, January 12, 2019 in lieu of the regularly scheduled workday. This training will certify participants to apply specific herbicides to invasive plants for the purpose of ecological restoration only on Libertyville Township Open Space properties during volunteer workdays held throughout the year. The training will cover labels, safety, and application techniques among much else. This certification is only valid for one year so anyone who has already taken it must recertify. The training will take place on Saturday, January 12th at the Libertyville Township meeting room located at 359 Merrill Court, Libertyville from 9 to 11 a.m. Click HERE for a location map.
This training is free but advance registration is required. Please contact Jon Happ at jhapp@libertyvilletownship.us or Damon Cederberg at dcederberg@libertyvilletownship.us to register or if you have any questions.

Volunteer Appreciation Event

Following the training, Libertyville Township extends an invitation to volunteers who have participated in a Libertyville Township workday in 2018 to join us at a catered volunteer appreciation lunch from 11:00 a.m. to noon. Please RSVP to Jon Happ at jhapp@libertyvilletownship.us or Damon Cederberg at dcederberg@libertyvilletownship.us so that we know how many of our distinguished volunteers to expect!

December Workday Recap

December’s workday took place on a sunny but chilly 20° morning at Oak Openings. Under the direction of Workday Leader Dave Eubanks, three hearty volunteers put in a total of nine hours removing invasive brush from the banks of Bull’s Brook. One quarter acre was cleared of brush and along the way Dave worked with volunteers on ID skills for invasive buckthorn and honeysuckle. The Open Space staff sends a big THANK YOU to all the volunteers who made this day (and year) a success!
The next regularly scheduled Volunteer Workday is on February 9 from 9:00 a.m. - noon at Oak Openings. An up-to-date list of dates and locations including directions is located on the Libertyville Township website and can be found by clicking HERE .

Safety Tip: Don’t Crowd the Plow

Every year we ask drivers to remember to stay back when approaching a snow plow. This is for your safety, and the safety of our snow plow drivers. When visibility is low, and roads are potentially slippery, it is crucial to SLOW DOWN and STAY BACK! Watch now
