YLC December 2018 Monthly Update

President’s Message
Dear Young Lawyers,
As we wind down 2018, I hope that you had a productive year, both professionally and personally. During the holiday season, I challenge you to take some time off, recharge and get ready for 2019, but also to spend some time giving back.
One of the biggest needs facing Virginians is a lack of access to legal services. There are many organizations and programs available to help address this by encouraging lawyers willing to serve in a pro-bono capacity. Programs, such as
VirginiaFreeLegalAnswers
and
Virginia Lawyer Referral Service
, offer opportunities to get involved immediately to help those who might not be able to afford the services of a lawyer.
Also, there are a number of YLC pro-bono initiatives and programs where volunteers and assistance are always welcomed. If you are interested in getting involved with the YLC to assist with pro-bono initiatives, please click
here
.
On behalf of the YLC and the Board of Governors, I would like to wish you all a safe and happy holiday season as well as a great start to 2019!
Brian Wesley, President

Rebecca Lawrence and Chanel Gray, co-chairs of the Minority Pre-Law Conference (Hampton Roads) are this month’s Stars of the Month. Rebecca and Chanel programmed an excellent conference for undergraduate students interested in future legal careers. The event took place at Regent University School of Law and had over 130 students registered! Great job Rebecca and Chanel!

The Virginia Supreme Court recently released its final report of the Committee on Lawyer Well-Being entitled “A Profession at Risk, Report of the Committee on Lawyer Well-Being of the Supreme Court of Virginia”. The report can be found
