Boise's Tree Lighting Celebration

Set to Brighten Downtown
Friday, November 23

November 15, 2018 -     The lighting of the Downtown Boise Christmas Tree is a holiday tradition for hundreds of families. Boise Mayor David Bieter will light the tree during a candlelit celebration presented by Zions Bank.

About the Tree: This year's tree was donated by Dale and Doreen Eld of Boise. The tree was originally planted on the Eld's family ranch in Donnelly about 40 years ago. The ranch was a working tree farm at the time. Dale and Doreen liked the shape of the young Norway spruce, however, so when they moved into their home in the Cole-Ustick neighborhood in 1996, they relocated the tree to their front yard a short time later. It's now grown so tall, the family needs to remove the tree from the yard and is donating it to serve as the Holiday Tree for the City of Boise.

"This tree began its life intended to be a Christmas Tree and that's how it's going to end up. We think that's a pretty neat story," said Dale Eld.

Approximately 5,000 lights will make the 40-foot Norway spruce sparkle for the holidays in the heart of the city, The Grove Plaza.

Families are invited to gather for a candlelit tree lighting event:

When: Friday, November 23
Time: 5:00 - 6:30pm
Where: The Grove Plaza, Downtown Boise

"Zions Bank is a proud sponsor of the Holiday Tree Lighting because it celebrates the true spirit of Christmas, which is giving. We're pleased to kick off the season of hope with the community in a beautiful and festive way," said Toni Nielsen, Western Idaho Region President at Zions Bank.
