This morning, House Speaker Eileen Filler-Corn received the Arts Leadership Award from Americans for the Arts (AFTA) and the National Council of State Legislatures (NCSL). Nominated by the Virginia Commission for the Arts, the Speaker was actually awarded at NCSL’s annual convention last November, but could not attend. Since 2006, AFTA and NCSL have presented the State Legislator Arts Leadership Award to member of a state/territory legislature who has consistently advocated for and supported the arts and culture and/or arts education in their state or territory. The VCA extends its sincerest congratulations to Speaker Filler-Corn, and thanks her for her leadership and support for the arts in the Commonwealth.
