AUGUST  - 2018

Greetings from the farm!

We have reached the midpoint of our season here. We are harvesting many crops almost every day to share with neighbors at our Market Saturdays, the Feeding Frogtown food distribution each Friday, and to our workshare members. There is still plenty of farming to do this season, and we look forward to seeing you at one of our many opportunities to get involved on the farm.

Keep reading to learn more about what we've accomplished this month, and find out what events are coming up!

Peace,
Frogtown Farm Staff

Up On The Farm

Summer is coming to a close, and we have recently passed the halfway point of the growing season. We are so grateful for the interns we have had the pleasure of working with this summer, and we will be sad to see them go as they start school again. Thank you to Abdi, Lucy, Xinger, Ashley, Jose, Sakinah, Ella, Julia, Maly, Dyane, and Celina for all of their hard work at Frogtown Farm.

Our Tuesday evening Community Farm nights are a fun way to get involved on the farm. Neighbors who attended Community Farm Night on Tuesdays from 5-8:00pm in the past month have come to the farm to harvest and cure garlic and onions, plant flowers, and give a "makeover" to our asparagus beds! All are welcome at Community Farm Night. Come join us every Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00pm we work together on the farm. Please visit our website or the Facebook event page for more information.

It has been gratifying to see the fruits of our farm team's labor pay off as crops are harvested and distributed through Feeding Frogtown on Friday afternoons and at our Market events every Saturday. We recently adopted "pay-as-you-can" pricing to make it easier for anyone to receive fresh produce while also supporting the farm's operations. We also accept EBT, offer double market bucks, and have free tokens for kids to do their own shopping.

We have sunflowers and other cut flowers (planted six weeks ago) beginning to bloom, and massive quantities of tomatoes coming out of our ears. We have six varieties of tomatoes growing in the hoophouse, including Cherokee Purple and Copia-- make sure to pick some up at our Market Saturdays.

As we move into the late summer, we are continuing to plant crops such as carrots, kale, rutabaga, and cilantro as we are waiting for our late season crops to mature.  Our cover crop seeds just arrived, and will be an important part of putting the farm to bed for the season.

Please come by to see all that is growing!

Harvest Fest - Save the date!
