Upcoming Events
Home Stretch for the Whittier PTA Auction!
We're in the home stretch! Last day for ticket sales will be the 24th so please make sure you get your tickets in this week. If you can't attend, why not purchase a ticket for a teacher or staff member to attend!

Also Online Auction is going on NOW! We had our first closing last Friday - CONGRATS to all the winners! Let's keep those bids coming for all the great items - restaurant gift cards, summer camps, day out with our teachers, reader board and the FAMOUS Gringots Playhouse! Also, take a look at the awesome artwork that each classroom put together. Get a head start on your bid! Final bids will be at the live auction.
For more information or to bid on any auction online go to www.whittierauction.org

Not going to be able to join us at this weekend's Catucky Derby auction?
You can still support our library, our staff, our programs, and our students by making a donation online. Visit the Whittier PTA Fundraising page to make a donation.

Auction Classroom Art on display this FRIDAY
Have you seen the classroom artwork posted on the auction website? A gumwall! A lampshade! A unicycle print! It's all SO GOOD. Many rooms are already getting competing bids.

This Friday is your chance to see the work up close, beginning at 2:15pm in the library. You'll appreciate how much hard work each student (and parent volunteers!) put in to making these one-of-a-kind treasures.

Place your bids now, and we guarantee you'll be racing for the highest bid again after Friday. Read all about your favorite pieces here: https://wildcats.schoolauction.net/derby2018/catalog

This presentation is for both gun owners and non-gun owners. We hope that you will join us to learn about simple steps that all adults can take to reduce the harm that can occur when unsupervised children get ahold of an unsecured firearm. More information about the campaign can be found at besmartforkids.org
Date: May 8th
Time: 7-8:00 pm
Location: Whittier Library

PTA Information
Financial Review Committee Volunteers Needed
Are you someone who wants to volunteer at Whittier but have trouble fitting it into your schedule? Are you interested in a volunteer position you could do on a Thursday evening at Chucks or a Sunday morning over coffee? Do you like numbers and checklists? If you answered yes to two out of three, you are perfect for the Financial Review Committee.

The Financial Review Committee is a committee of 3 or 4 Whittier volunteers that review the how the PTA followed procedures throughout the year: are there two signers on checks, were the meeting minutes approved, etc. It's not hard, you basically just follow a Washington State PTA checklist. And you can do it in your pajamas if you want .. with a cocktail.

If you are interested, please contact either Co-President Sascha Demerjian ( [email protected]) or James Goldsmith ( [email protected]).

Communications in Spanish
We have been working to have most of our communication also translated to Spanish. You will get a newsletter for May/June in Kidmail. Please contact us at [email protected] if you would like to receive our newsletter in Spanish and did not get it in your Kidmail.

Volunteers Needed for Playground Install
The time has come! We need your help (and muscles!) to install the new Whittier play structure, including the HUGE task of hauling and spreading new gravel and wood chips. You may have signed up in the Fall to help. This is the new and revised signup, so please sign up here.

There are nearly 200 volunteer positions for gravel and wood chip install over the May 18-20 weekend. Please consider signing up for more than 1 shift if you can, and pass along to your neighbors and friends - many hands are needed to pull this off! Troops, teams, classrooms or groups can sign up and tackle a piece of the job - including food or beverage donations. Please contact  [email protected] with any questions.

We have a new bulletin board up. Please stop by and pick up a flower to decorate and bring it back to post on the board.

Help Wanted: Lunch & Recess Volunteers
Lunch and recess times provide important social, emotional and physical breaks for our students. We are at lunch and on the playground with your children everyday but can always use extra help to:

·  Monitor play to ensure safety
·  Help students with playground equipment
·  Assist students who are learning new games and social settings
·  Referee sports games on the playground
·  Encourage kids to eat
·  Remind students to stay in their seats
·  Open food containers
·  Assist students with cleaning up and putting away their lunches
·  Grant bathroom permissions

Volunteering at lunch and/or recess is a fun way to help out, and a great way to be involved in your child's school day!
