President's Message:

I hope everyone had a beautiful holiday enjoying whatever your traditions are!

As we enter 2019 I think about what New Year Resolution I will make. Of course I'll make the usual weight loss resolution, but I want to add "making art a bigger priority" to this year's list. How can I accomplish this in my busy schedule? Hmmmm - maybe I can take thirty minutes out of my morning-email-routine and designate that time to drawing instead. I have sadly slacked with drawing in my sketchbook, getting sucked into our tech world like a lot of other people. And, maybe I can add some drawing time while riding my exercise bike which can help achieve my other resolution (once I wipe off the cobwebs or course).

So if you are still trying to decide what resolution(s) to make this year, consider ways to add more "art-time" to your busy schedule. After all, we are in this guild for a reason - we are artists!

May you all have a safe, happy, healthy and ARTSY 2019!

Join us for a presentation by
Cliff DeJong, Photographer

Cliff DeJong is a member of the LAG and the St Vrain Photographic Society. He will speak at the LAG meeting on January 9 about his adventures in photography.

Cliff's passion is wildlife, and he has taken three major explorations in search of wild bears. The first was to Alaska for grizzlies and the second to Canada for the Spirit Bear. He missed the LAG November meeting because of a quest for polar bears in northern Canada.

Cliff's career was in technical fields as a physicist and mathematician, and as a result, he was able to master the technical side of photography without difficulty. The artistic side was much more difficult, and his efforts continue today.

Do a Workshop!

How would you like to earn some money? Would you like to share a particular skill you have in creating art? The Longmont Artist Guild is looking for art instructors to expand our workshop program. You provide the studio space (usually in your home) along with your "expertise" on a particular technique or project. LAG will get the word out for you so you can get lots of students. No commission or fees to LAG as long as you are a current member. You can charge $10 - $25 per person, depending on the length of the workshop and what you provide. You can always send out a supply list and the students bring their own. To offer a workshop, get ideas or advice, just email us at: longmontartistsguild@gmail.com
