YLC November 2018 Monthly Update
President’s Message

Dear Young Lawyers,

I would like to start by sending condolences to the families and communities affected by the synagogue massacre near Pittsburgh and the murders of innocent shoppers at a grocery store in Kentucky. It is incumbent on us as legal practitioners and protectors of the rule of law to call for calm and civility during this tumultuous time in our country and denounce violence against any and all people.

On October 26, 2018, the Council of the Virginia State Bar met to discuss a number of important issues affecting the practice of law in the Commonwealth of Virginia. These approved initiatives and rule changes will be presented to the Virginia Supreme Court for consideration. The next meeting of the Council is set for February 23, 2019, with the Executive Committee meeting commencing on February 22, 2019.

I would also like to thank all of the young lawyers who have assisted the emergency legal response to Hurricane Florence in either Virginia or North Carolina. The need remains very real so if you are able to assist, additional information on pro-bono assistance in North Carolina can be found below.
