Octopus  is a large-scale automated sculpture lighted internally with thousands of LED lights. When displayed,  Octopus  will be roughly 20 feet long, about 15 feet wide and 10 feet at its highest point, with eight articulated tentacles. When activated, a series of electric motors will drive a series of gears which will then set in motion each of the tentacles.

Brilliant Baltimore Community Showcase Contest

The Brilliant Baltimore Community Showcase contest is designed to highlight neighborhoods who wish to show their pride by lighting up in coordination with Light City. Participating communities compete by either hosting an event or display for Light City in their neighborhood between April 6-20, then submitting photos of their entry online. Once the photos are posted, viewers can vote for their favorite neighborhood on lightcity.org from April 21-April 22, 2018. The neighborhood with the most votes will receive $2,018 to be used towards an event in their community. Nine honorable mentions will receive $1,000 each towards their community associations. Here are the neighborhood groups participating: Concerned Citizens for a Better Brooklyn, Gilman School, Govans Gateway, Hampden Community Council, Historic Fell's Point, Matthew Henson Community Development Corporation, The MIX Church (Washington Hill), Oliver Community Assocation, Passion City Inc. (Park Heights), The Pratt Fairy Tale Extravaganza (Mount Vernon), The Shekhinah in Carrollton Ridge, and Zion Baptist Church (Oliver).

STROLLING PERFORMANCE: THE LIGHT BRINGERS

The mission of the Light Bringers is to bring light to the dark corners of Baltimore’s past and present. As envisioned by performance artist and composer Megan Livingston, The Light Bringers will perform a durational healing ritual that will revisit and illuminate the unique role Baltimore's Inner Harbor played as a hub for the intercontinental slave trade.

Through a steady stream of productions filled with incredibly clever sample flips and deft production chops, he has won fans across the world, including Gilles Peterson, Lefto, Anthony Valadez, Jazzy Jeff, Questlove and countless others.
