You can provide flowers for our
Sunday
services, and
also celebrate someone you love.
Flowers can be donated in the name of someone special for a birthday or anniversary; you can also dedicate the bouquet in memory of someone who's passed on, or to the Glory to God.
On the bulletin board by the coffee pot is a sign-up sheet where you can choose an open date.
The cost is $35.
A check for the cost can be dropped into the collection plate any Sunday with "Flowers" in the memo line.

ST. CATHERINE'S QUILTERS GROUP

A group from St. Catherine's meets to talk and make lap quilts, which we then donate to Manor Care, or to someone from St. Catherine's who might need a bit of TLC. We always welcome anyone who might be interested in learning to make a quilt, or just to be a part of this ministry. No sewing experience is needed, just a pair or willing hands!

Rev. Peter's Message
We have moved from waiting for the coming of Jesus in the four weeks of Advent, to celebrating his arrival in the twelve days of Christmastide.
On Sunday, January 6, we move to Epiphany, a time for observing the signs of the incarnate Christ as Jesus at work in the world, in the literal sense of the Greek word epiphaneia, meaning "showing" or manifestations. For the next eight weeks, we will sit with the disciples and other followers of Jesus, and watch him work and hear him teach.
We can also bring this attention to the manifestations of God's presence in our own lives.
This is a spiritual practice worth cultivating: learning to really see what is in front of us, attending to God's presence in each moment.
Do we notice the beauty of the sunset? If we take the Incarnation seriously, do we see the face of Jesus in the face of a stranger?
And as part of this practice, we can reverse the perspective and ask, what does Jesus see us doing in our lives during this time? How does he see us work to bring about his Kingdom and teach others through our actions? What are we showing, what are we manifesting, in our lives?
Epiphany in 2019 will be a time of celebration and transition for St. Catherine's as Rev. Laurie moves to the next part of her life journey. We look forward to our time together over the next two months.

Love Thy Neighbor
Join us in support of refugees, migrants, and pilgrims on Sunday, January 6, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Trinity Cathedral. Speakers include: Nicole Willis-Grimes, Board President of the Northern Nevada International Center; the Rev. Canon Mikayla Dunfee of Trinity Cathedral; Dr. Sherif Elfass, President of the Northern Nevada Muslim Community; and Rabbi Sara Zober of Temple Sinai.

The Good Book Club
Welcome to the Good Book Club! We invite you to explore Christ's redeeming love by reading Paul's Letter to the Romans each day throughout the season of Epiphany 2019. Join with tens of thousands of Episcopalians to learn about life in the early church and central principles of our Christian faith. The Good Book Club offers an opportunity to dive deeply into scripture and create a daily practice of engagement with God's Word.
It's easy to join the Good Book Club: Just open your Bible and start! To support you in your journey, The Good Book Club website (http://www.goodbookclub.org) has a variety of resources for individuals, small groups, and congregations.
What is The Good Book Club?
The Good Book Club is an invitation to all Episcopalians to join in reading Saint Paul's Letter to the Romans during Epiphany 2019. Episcopalians will start reading Romans on Jan. 7 and read a section every day (except Sundays) through the Epiphany season.
In surveys taken before and after the first Good Book Club project in 2018 (reading the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts), participants reported growth in their understanding of scripture and a deepening of their prayer life. Perhaps most significantly, the percentage of people who reported reading the Bible on a daily basis increased to 73 percent at the end of the first Good Book Club reading, from 45 percent when it began.

On January 20, we will hold our annual meeting at 10:00 am in the sanctuary between our two services. At this meeting we will be discussing our budget for the coming year, electing two Vestry members, and electing delegates and alternates for our Diocesan Convention. Reports from our Ministry Teams will be available for your reading. Please plan on attending this very important parish meeting and enjoying a delightful brunch. Please bring a dish to share. Child care will be available. It will be an hour of fellowship well spent.
Ministry Team Reports
This year, in preparation for our Annual Meeting, we're asking each Team Leader, for both outreach and those ministries that support our parish, to submit a brief written report for inclusion in our meeting handouts. Please have them to Rev. Laurie by January 13th.
If you have a special message you'd like to share with the congregation, please feel free to contact Rev. Laurie to put you on the agenda. Thank you for all that you do and for your willingness to serve.

Convention Delegates & Alternates
If you are interested in being a delegate to our diocesan convention this fall, on October 3-5 at Harvey's in South Shore at Lake Tahoe, please let Andy Kuhn or Linda Rosenthal know.
We will be electing three delegates and two alternates to represent us. Qualifications are that you must be at least 15 years of age, that you have regularly worshiped during the year and that you regularly give financially toward the work of the parish.

"Baby Bundles" is composed of and supported by members of St. Catherine's and Trinity Episcopal Churches.
With items donated by both congregations, volunteers assemble "Bundles" of layette items for St. Mary's and Renown hospitals. They are then distributed by hospital staff to disadvantaged new parents who have little or nothing for their newborn. Any help with the following items would be greatly appreciated:

- Hats for boys, girls, and in gender-neutral colors
- Bibs for boys and girls
- Girls' receiving blankets
- Gender-neutral sleepers
- Gender-neutral outfits
Clothing should be size 0-6 months.

Automatic 'bill pay' for your pledge
Some St. Catherine's members have found it very convenient to use their bank's "bill pay" service to handle their pledge to the church. You can instruct your bank to have a check of a certain amount generated on a certain date, which will then show up automatically each month at the church's P. O. box. If you're interested in setting this up to save yourself the step of writing checks for your pledge, please talk to your bank or financial institution to find out the details.
