The Wisconsin Avenue GUTS shuttle will follow a new schedule effective March 18 in which it will depart from the intersection of 37th Street NW and Winfield Lane NW. In addition, to accommodate the construction of a new East-West Road, Entrance 4 will close on March 25. Once this change is effective, drivers must use Entrance 3 to access Garage 2. James B. Spies, MD, MPH, professor of radiology at Georgetown University Medical Center and chairman of the department of radiology at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, has been selected to receive the 2019 Gold Medal from the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR), their highest honor. Spies will receive the medal during the SIR 2019 Annual Meeting in Austin, TX on March 24. Learn more here.

The Georgetown University Postdoctoral Association (GUPDA) is accepting abstracts of current or past research for the Second Annual Postdoc Research Symposium on April 26. Submit an abstract here by Sunday, March 31 for an oral presentation or by Monday, April 15 for a poster presentation. Prizes will be awarded to those selected to deliver oral presentations.

Award-winning filmmaker Ken Burns visited Georgetown on March 11 to speak with university leaders, faculty and students about the power of education and the use of narrative to address critical societal issues. During the visit, Burns and his colleague Lynn Novick debuted screen clips from a new documentary series, College Behind Bars, which chronicles the lives of a dozen incarcerated men and women as they struggle to earn degrees.
