Please remember that if you are dropping off or picking up your child by car, you must  enter from Woodmill Drive and join the car line. Thank you for your cooperation.

Please make sure to send your child to school dressed warmly enough for outdoor recess. 

ATTENDANCE LINE
If your child is going to be absent due to illness or be late, please call Bassett's 24-hour attendance line at 440.835.6331 by 8:30 am. 

Our attendance line is automated, so it is necessary that you call this number and not the main Bassett phone number.

Totally Awesome Tuesday
Tuesday, January 8  is Totally Awesome Tuesday! Everyone is encouraged to wear the "Big 3" t-shirt, Bassett or Westlake spirit wear, or any green shirt.

Congratulations Award Recipients!
Congratulations to our students who will be recognized for exemplary effort in being reflective and showing independence. If your child is an award recipient, a notification was sent.

Breakfast
Award recipients and their families are invited to the Totally Awesome Tuesday breakfast on  Tuesday, January 8 at 7:30 am in the cafeteria. Thank you to First Watch for donating the muffins for the breakfast.

Math Club
Math Club will meet on these Thursdays:  January 10, 17, 24, and 31, 2:20-3:20 pm for those who are signed up. Please continue to send in a note each week indicating that your child is staying for Math Club. If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Kowalski at  kowalski@wlake.org .



Perspective: Sharing Cultural Heritages
We are using the display case across from the office to showcase items from different cultures. During January, we are celebrating the cultures of Poland.
 
If you have items or photos you would like to share, please drop them off at the office or give them to Mrs. Gedeon, our ESL teacher. Everything will be secured and returned to you. Coats for Kids
LAST CALL! Monday, January 7 is the last day to bring new and gently-used coats for our Coats for Kids service project.  There is a blue donation barrel near the main entrance. The flyer is  here . Learn more about Coats for Kids at coatsforkidscleveland.org

No School Jan. 18 & 21
There is no school for students on  Friday, January 18 (staff work day) and  Monday, January 21 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day).

DIS PTA Night Out
I encourage 4th grade parents to attend the Dover Intermediate School PTA Night Out on  Wednesday, January 9 at 7:00 pm at Time Warp. This is a fun way to learn more about DIS and the DIS PTA, and meet other parents!  Details are in the article below.



Bassett PTA Meeting
The first Bassett PTA meeting of 2019 is  Thursday, January 10 at 7:00 pm in the Bassett library. I hope to see you there! Come learn about what's happening at Bassett during the next few months, hear updates about the new elementary school PTA, and more!



Founders' Day Award Nominations
Founders' Day is quickly approaching. Our Founders' Day celebration is a chance to thank and honor our volunteers and staff members. Nominations are due by  Wednesday, January 16 The online nomination form and additional information can be found below. 


 
PTA Nominating Committee
Although it is only January, our Nominating Committees are beginning their work to fill the PTA slates for the 2019-2020 school year. Additional information is below for the new elementary school PTA as well as for Dover Intermediate School PTA. Participating in PTA is a great way to be involved in our district and schools and also a great way to meet other parents.

FOUNDERS' DAY
Nominations due by Jan. 16

Founders' Day is the opportunity to recognize and thank individual PTA members who have made a difference in our children's lives. You are encouraged to nominate someone who deserves to be recognized. The online nomination form is here.

The Founders' Day awards are:
  • Ohio PTA Achievement Award 
    (One award is given by each Westlake PTA unit: Bassett, Dover, Hilliard, Holly Lane, DIS, LBMS, WHS, Early Childhood, Council.)
  • Helping Hands Award
    (One award is given by Westlake Council of PTAs, representing all Westlake PTA units. Nominees may include anyone working on behalf of children and youth, excluding certified educators.)
  • Outstanding District Educator Award
    (One award is given by Westlake Council of PTAs, representing all Westlake PTA units. Nominees may include principals, teachers, counselors and other certified educators.)  
Nominations are due by  Wednesday, January 16. Nominees and nominators must be current PTA members.

Founders' Day Dinner
The Founders' Day dinner is Thursday, February 21 at 6:00 pm at Wagner's of Westlake. Please submit your RSVP here and remit payment by Monday, February 11.

SCREENAGERS 
Jan. 31, 6:00 pm

Westlake Council of PTAs is proud to present Screenagers: Growing Up in the Digital Age  on Thursday, January 31 at 6:00 pm at the Westlake Schools Performing Arts Center.

Screenagers  is a documentary film that addresses struggles over social media, video games, and internet addiction. The film empowers kids to best navigate the digital world and provides parental r esources to help them do it.  A panel discussion will follow the film.

Tickets are $3. 

Parents and students are encouraged to view Screenagers (recommended  for students ages 10 and up). It is not a drop off event.
