Resources for high-quality, informal STEM programming
2019 STEM Grantee Spotlight
Arizona Kids THINK Too | Dysart Community Center

Arizona Kids THINK Too partnered with Dysart Community Center to teach approximately 80 youth about technology, engineering, the arts, science, and mathematics during their summer programming. Funding from the 2019 AzCASE STEM Grant supported the implementation of the Estes Rocket curriculum. This three-day event entailed two days of building rockets and a third day dedicated to launching them. The project allowed youth to make their very own rocket and install modifications to their rockets, such as parachutes, sticker designs, and colors. Staff moved from student to student, providing extra support as they installed the parachutes and inserted the motors, and provided instruction on how to effectively launch the rocket to fly straight up, avoiding obstacles in its path. The kids had a blast and the program will repeat next summer!

When STEM Becomes STEAM, We Can Change The Game
Repost from Forbes | by Talia Milgrom-Elcott

As the head of an organization that focuses on preparing 100,000 new STEM teachers for our nation's classrooms, I get asked all the time what I think about STEAM. People assume I'm opposed, but the opposite is true. While the country doesn't have a need for more arts teachers, per se, we all need more STEM teachers to teach STEM in STEAMy ways. 21st-century jobs require creative confidence, critical thinking, and collaboration. Children need 21st-century learning opportunities that are no different. When the arts are part of STEM, STEM can come to life and spark connections for many more students to engage creatively, critically, and confidently in their learning.
