Texas STEM Connections is a web-based tool that makes it easy for STEM professionals to connect with K-20 educators, classrooms, out of school time programs, and other volunteer opportunities. Professionals can share their skills and expertise to bring real-world, authentic learning opportunities to all our students helping to create the next generation of innovators. Through in-person matches and virtual sessions, professionals can help educators and program providers connect their students to the world of STEM. Together we can make a difference.

The TEA is excited to announce that the College and Career and Military Preparation (CCMP) Division will be conducting a statewide listening tour to inform the development of a new state plan required for the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (Perkins V), and the development of statewide frameworks for STEM education and Work-based Learning (WBL). Starting in December, the team will gather information and feedback from stakeholders across the state on the major components of Perkins V, as well as current challenges and areas of success around implementing and expanding high-quality STEM and Work-based Learning to all students in Texas.
Below is the schedule for our remaining visits:

Schedule:
Day 1: All meetings will be held in the Education Service Centers.
- 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM Educational Site Visits/Site Tours - TEA would like to tour campuses in the region that have implemented or have an interest in Career and Technical Education, Work-based Learning, and/or STEM programs.
- 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM Room #1 Parent Meeting - TEA would like to engage parents in a face-to-face meeting to seek input about what they want to see in future WBL and STEM for their children.
- 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM Room #2 Workforce and Institutions of Higher Education Meeting - The team would like to meet with IHE and workforce representatives to gather information and feedback around creating meaningful cross-sector partnerships and ensuring students are successful in postsecondary endeavors.
Day 2:
- 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM Work-based Learning & STEM Listening Session with Educators - The team would like meet with district administrators to gather input about STEM and WBL framework development.
- 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM Career and Technical Education Listening Session with Educators - The team would like to meet with district administrators to discuss Programs of Study and seek input on the major components of Perkins V.
Registration:
On Day 1, parents will just show up and the business folks will sign up through a link provided by the Education Service Center. Walk-ins are welcome for both days.
On Day 2, educators will register through the ESC registration system. Educators will want to attend the morning session because that is where we will get feedback from teachers, admin, counselors, and specialists about STEM and WBL. The afternoon session is about the Perkin V federal grant update. Educators are welcome to attend both the morning and the afternoon, but we will be getting STEM feedback in the morning.

Presentation proposal for the CS Summit to be held June 17-19, 2019 in Georgetown, TX are being accepted. As you submit your proposal please keep the following in mind: Sessions will be 1 hour in length, Wifi internet access will be available for you and participants, Participants will be asked to bring their own devices, please specify in your description if your session is device specific, Interactive and engaging proposals of interest requested
Houston, TX; February 7-9, 2019
Experience three days of complete immersion into an out-of-this-world adventure at the Space Exploration Educator's Conference. This conference is for grades kindergarten to 12th – and not just for science teachers! Space Center Houston strives to use space to teach across the curriculum. The activities presented can be used for science, language arts, math, history, and more.
Rio Grande Valley, TX; February 8-9, 2019
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is one of the largest Hispanic Serving Institutions in the United States with an enrollment of 29,000 and an 89% Hispanic student population. This conference is for anyone involved in P-16 STEM education, including higher education and P-12 faculty, administrators, students, and other key stakeholders.
South Padre Island, TX; February 21-22, 2019

The STEM Center of South Texas invites educators to South Padre Island for the 4th Annual STEM Summit of South Texas February 21-22, 2019 at the Isla Grand Beach Resort. Conference theme: "STEM is COMING" modeled after the popular television series "Game of Thrones." As you present your session proposal, please consider the theme in your title and content.
San Antonio, TX; March 2, 2019
Join the Scobee Education Center for the 25th annual Out in Space, Down to Earth STEM Educator Conference on March 2, 2019. There will be hands on workshops and planetarium shows for pre-service
teachers and educators of grades pre-K to 12. Attendees will earn 6 CPE’s.

Design Squad Global Inventing Green Club Guide which includes educator leader notes, six new engineering activities, and material handouts for the club.
Sign up to run a club or use the activities however they might fit best in your program! The new activities are designing Sneakers using earth-friendly materials, building Wind Power Stations with Gears that harness wind to do useful work, finding a more earth-friendly solution for disposable Tableware, redesigning airplanes in Flight Path, and creating Light Pipes to illuminate rooms without electricity. To accompany the new club guide, DSG has created three
new professional development videos for educators. Learn about invention education, how to create an environment for inventing and what environmental sustainability means in the context of invention.

Applications due February 8th
The UT STEM Center is currently recruiting high school computer science teachers to be part of a $1.2 million research practitioner partnership grant funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). The program, Accelerating Women’s Success and Mastery in Computer Science (AWSM in CS), aims to bring together 25 computer science teachers with researchers from The University of Texas at Austin to implement and test holistic, research-based approaches to tackling female underrepresentation in CS over the next three years. The 25 teachers will receive sustained professional development over the three years of the research grant through week-long summer institutes as well as additional one-day workshops in the Fall and Spring semesters. As a partner in this research, participating teachers will receive: a stipend of $750 per year, free registration to the WeTeach_CS Summit for the second and third years of the study, free professional development in partnership with the National Center for Women & Information Technology, and the opportunity to grow as a leader in the computer science education community through regional and national conference presentations

Join our K-12 STEM Outreach Google Groups! These email groups (open and moderated listservs) are all about sharing resources, information, events, volunteers, needs, and more with others reaching out to K-12 students aiming to excite them about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
