This Week at BJBE
March 18, 2019
A Note from  Tracy Friend  and  Lisa Wilson

Dear Congregants,

After six months of careful research and planning, we are excited to share with you our plans to launch a new membership/dues model that is both revolutionary and consistent with our long held Jewish values. We are abandoning our current (and outdated) traditional dues structure in favor of a more modern and engaging approach which encourages members to determine how much they give based on recommended levels and reference points provided by BJBE.   Read more >>

A Note from our Gala Committee

Spring will have sprung and we will be ready to dance and sing the night away at BJBE at our Annual Gala on April 6th.  "From the Big Screen to Broadway" will feature music from your favorite movies and Broadway musicals from across the decades in our annual "fun raiser" and fundraiser.

Nosh.. oy vays mir...did you say nosh?  Please bring your bow ties and your appetites!  Catered by City BBQ,  Hel's Kitchen, Pear Tree Catering, Poochies, North Shore Catering, Sweet Thing, Catered by Design and more. Oh...can you say cheese curds and sliders from Culver's?

"Denise...the diet starts April 7th I promise"

Fun?  Did you say fun?..  Broadway Karaoke/Sing-along during dinner?  Jewelry Box giveaway...honestly..Emmis.  Live auction...Jerusalem and Park City Condos! Patio Set and events with Clergy.  Who's ready?

Then there are the real reasons we Gala.  We see old friends and we make new friends.  We laugh and we hug.  We dance and we sing.  We build community.

Social Action Project Collection Ahead of the Purim Celebration
For our  Erev Purim Celebration on March 20, our Chai School students organized a social action project to make bagged lunches to support guests at PADS. Please bring in individually wrapped chips, cookies, and other shelf-stable snacks and place them in the marked bin in the Tzedakah niche.

March Tzedakah - Garden on Mars
Garden on Mars is one of the many organizations doing the holy work of rebuilding. BJBE volunteered their time and money at this beautiful organization in the Lower 9th Ward for many years as part of our mission to NOLA; building a chicken coop, building garden boxes, and planting for them.

Garden On Mars is an urban garden project growing fresh food & flowers
on vacant lots throughout New Orleans. Their mission is to provide gardening solutions to local residents in order to bring forgotten land back to life, to increase access to fresh food, and to empower residents to sell what they grow to local restaurants and florists.
CARING COMMUNITY

BJBE's Caring Community is a team of volunteers who can act as your extended family when your family needs additional support.  Caring Community provides the following services: home-delivered meals in times of need, transportation to/from BJBE or a medical appointment, phone support for people who are ill or lonely, senior education and caregiver support, and a virtual food pantry.   Learn more

BJBE is certified as a Safer Synagogue by Jewish Community Abuse Resources, Education & Solutions (JCARES). Our leadership has been trained in understanding the impact of abuse across the lifespan and improving access to support for congregants experiencing abusive situations. For more information, please contact the clergy at 847.940.7575.
