Introducing: Food For Thought
We are thrilled to welcome Lindsay Allen, the Rooftop Farmer at Boston Medical Center and Operations Director at Higher Ground Farm for a discussion of urban gardening. Attendees will learn about the history of urban gardening, food justice, and innovative ways to grow food at your home.

This is the first event in our Food for Though Community Gardening and Cooking Initiative!
The initiative will continue with the installation of a teaching garden at the Central Library in the spring of 2019, and many hands on gardening and cooking workshops. Please contact

January Foodie Book Recommendations
Adult Recommendations
This month's book theme is all about food - creating, sharing, and learning all about it. Special thanks to Tim, Heidi, Kevin, and Karen at the Central Library.

Edited by former Somerville residents Cara Kuball and Damon Bishop, "Table Scraps" features pancake recipes and illustrations by local Boston-area artists. The book was produced in conjunction with the annual International Pancake Film Festival, which Kuball and Bishop ran out of their Somerville home for almost 10 years.

This is a witty, readable tour of culinary and cultural history as seen through the lens of recipes. If you've ever been curious about the origins of the cupcake, wanted to make salad dressing 17th-century style, or wondered what an Ancient Roman chef would have done with that flamingo you've got sitting in the fridge, this is the book for you.

Essays on cooking and eating. The author writes strongly in favor of toast, and butter, and olive oil. Who can argue? When I finished reading it, I felt compelled to start again from the beginning.

Each child in the Peters household has a different food preference, which might be enough to put Mrs. Peters over the edge.  Detailed illustrations and wonderful rhyming text make this a fan favorite for sure.
