Author Jane Green at our first author luncheon
Welcome to 2019 - We are so excited for a new year full of books and spectacular author events! We are delighted to introduce a new author series: Unlikely Author Luncheons. One of the very wonderful perks of bookselling is the opportunity to attend publisher-hosted lunches and dinners, where booksellers enjoy a meal while getting to know an author. There's something about sharing a meal together that invites conversation in a comfortable setting.

Our first Unlikely Author Luncheon of 2019 will be Tuesday, January 15th at noon, with Plainville native Georgia Hunter. She will discuss her incredible novel, We Were the Lucky Ones, which was inspired by stories from her own family. Tickets include a delicious lunch from our Unlikely Café , and a copy of We Were the Lucky Ones. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.

There is no better way to start a new year than with New York Times bestselling author Chris Bohjalian! We are so excited to welcome Chris for the paperback release of his latest novel, The Flight Attendant, a powerful story about the ways an entire life can change in one night. A flight attendant wakes up in the wrong hotel, in the wrong bed, with a dead man - and no idea what happened. The Flight Attendant unveils a spellbinding story of memory, of the giddy pleasures of alcohol and the devastating consequences of addiction and of murder far from home. Chris will discuss his book and answer questions, followed by a book signing. Tickets include admission and a copy of The Flight Attendant (can be exchanged for another Chris Bohjalian book at the event).

An Unlikely Story is honored to spend an evening with the father-son pair that's changing the way America thinks about addiction with an in-conversation event with host Jeff Kinney. David and Nic Sheff have chronicled their family's story, the heartbreaking and inspiring experience of survival, relapse, and recovery, and how their family has coped with addiction over many years. With their new book, HIGH, they hope to educate teens and tweens about the realities of drugs and alcohol. Join us for an evening of engaging conversation with David and Nic Sheff, followed by a book signing This event will be general seating, and once the Second Story event space is filled (200 seats), attendees will be seated in the Wimpy Kid event space on the 3rd floor, where they will view the event via live broadcast. All attendees will be able to have their books signed.   Register here for this free event!

Thursday, January 10th at 6:30pm
We are thrilled to host one of the most popular author/cartoonists in the industry, Lincoln Peirce, creator of Big Nate! Lincoln will introduce his new book, Max & the Midknights, a high-spirited medieval adventure. The event will consist of a visual presentation, drawing demonstration, Q&A segment, and book signing. Overflow ticket holders will view the presentation via live broadcast in the Wimpy Kid Studio event space, then join the signing line to meet Lincoln in person.
Tickets are $14.82 and include admission for two and a copy of Max & the Midknights!

Georgia Hunter Luncheon
Join us for an intimate luncheon with author and Plainville native Georgia Hunter, at which she will discuss her incredible novel, We Were the Lucky Ones. In 2000, a family reunion opened her eyes to the astounding war stories of her grandfather and his family. Eight years later, armed with a digital voice recorder and a Moleskine notebook, she set off to unearth and record her family's story. Georgia spent nearly a decade traversing the globe, interviewing family, and digging up records from every source she could think of, eventually piecing together the bones of what would become her novel We Were the Lucky Ones Now we are lucky enough to share an afternoon with this incredible author, enjoying a meal and conversation! Tickets include lunch and a copy of We Were the Lucky Ones.

Virgil Wander
Virgil Wander
by Leif Enger

Virgil Wander is the projectionist at a down-and-out movie theater in a small town in Minnesota, and Leif Enger's lyrical and potent novel puts him in the middle of small town drama, the sort everybody recognizes, but taken up a notch. The humor is folksy and realistic and the eccentric, delightful characters twirl around him like the kites created by his erstwhile roommate. I grew up in a small town, and the author gets every little detail right, from the unpredictable weather that only citizens could love to the way relationships bloom in the most unlikely of places. Anyone in a small town (or who wants to live in one) will be charmed and delighted. Just wonderful!

Brutally Honest
Brutally Honest
by Melanie Brown

A beautiful, raw, and (of course) honest look into the life of beloved Scary Spice, Melanie Brown. This book is scary indeed, as Mel B delves into her abusive ex-husband almost ruining her life, and her struggle to break through the chains created by this man she was with for ten years. Between moments of recalling these hard times, Mel also brings up past loves, friendships, and jobs in showbiz that have shaped who she is and how she was able to begin to overcome this trauma. This book is so inspiring, encouraging women to fight for themselves and how to find Girl Power when you are feeling "girl powerless."

Once Upon River
by Diane Setterfield
Once Upon a River can best be described as a fairy tale for adults, beginning in an ancient inn on the banks of the Thames. A stranger bursts in the doors with what appears to be a drowned girl in his arms. However, she soon takes a breath, and the mystery of who she belongs to begins. You will be swept away from the first chapter, into a tale with intriguing characters, magic, folklore, romance, and suspense.
