Hawes Highlights: Stay Informed!
This Week in Review
Hawes Elementary School is committed to all students succeeding in a rigorous core curriculum. We believe in the importance of a strong home and school connection to ensure that our students acquire the skills needed to be life-long learners. We believe in teamwork, collaboration and mutual respect. We embrace risk-taking, creativity and an openness to new ideas and technologies. We believe that a positive self-esteem and social responsibility are goals for all and that our students, through a love of learning, will be challenged to reach their highest potential! We believe in aiming for the remarkable!
Principal's Message
Transitions and change are a normal part of life - actually they are the only constant in our world. Right now, the Hawes school office is in a bit of a transition. Our attendance clerk, Sharlene O'Shea, has resigned and we wish her all the best. We are currently posting this position on edjoin. The position closes on March 25 and then, the screening and interview phase will begin. In the meantime, Brenda Alarco will be subbing in this position. To help with absence notices and requests for independent study contracts as well as other other issues related to this desk, we have set up a new email: Hawesattendance@hbcsd.us for your convenience.

We thank you for using this email or reaching out to Ms. Brent (abrent@hbcsd.us) for help.

HBCSD Annual Survey: March 18 - March 27
Is open now!
In order to learn more about student and family experiences in HBCSD, we will be asking for your feedback via a paper survey that will come home with your student in the next few weeks. Based on parent feedback the survey has been shortened to take even less time to complete! Your feedback will be an invaluable source of information for us as we work to make our schools and district as good as they can be. (Online option will be available.) We thank you in advance for your thoughtful responses.

Registration is open for all grade levels too!
Kudos! #Teamworkmakesthedreamwork
S pecial thanks to the many who gave time and energy to get us ready for the start of school:

  • to Tiffanie Atkins for decorating the staff room for our Class Act musicians and to Minerva Villanueva and Stephanie Gabaret for the continued work with the Class Act program - their efforts are huge!!
  • to Christine Pok for helping breakdown the set from our Class Act Family night.
  • to Cheri Rothenberg, Jen Shea, Brian Huber, Suzanne Abdelrahim and Noriko Burnham for serving on our school site council.
  • to Carlee Puffer for sharing information about Hawes with new families.

Be considerate to our neighbors!
When you are driving and parking around the school, please observe traffic rules and please be considerate to our neighbors. Please follow these guidelines:

  • Please don't block driveways and parking lot entrances.
  • Please don't double/triple park.
  • Slow down and drive carefully around the corner, intersections and the crosswalk.
  • Please don't leave your car unattended in the red zone in front of the school.

We appreciate your consideration and our neighbors will appreciate getting out of their driveways during drop off and pick up. Taking a moment to be safe and considerate is much better than someone getting hurt or getting a ticket! Thank you!
Inter-district transfers: must be renewed annually!
school_dog.jpg
If you live outside the HBCSD school district boundaries, you must renew your inter-district transfer each year. As you apply for this transfer, please remember that you are agreeing to your child maintaining good attendance, citizenship and grades. We will start accepting transfers for the 2019-2020 school year after February 12.

Forms are obtained at your home school district and must be approved by that district first. Once approved, you can submit the form to our school office.
Art Explorer Assembly: Eric Carle
This week, students will participate in individual class lessons and complete an art project based on the work of Eric Carle. Thank you to our PTA for funding and sponsoring this program!
