Park closing time changes Monday, January 14

We will close at 6:00 pm at Harris Lake County Park
Mountain bikers and disc golfers 
must be off the trails/course 
by 5:45 pm
The New Hill parking area 
on the American Tobacco Trail will close at 5:30 pm.

As of Jan. 1, 2019, there is 
no charge for 
public, group and outreach programs within any of the Wake County Parks. 

Fees will still apply for Shelters, Camps, Historic Yates Mill tours and Overnight Lodge reservations.

As of Jan. 1, 2019 we no longer accept cash on site at any Wake County Park location. Payments can be made on-site or in advance with a credit or debit card.

Winter Bird Hike 
Saturday, January 12    9 - 11 am
For ages 6 and up
Winter is a special time to observe our seasonal visitors such as the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Ruby-crowned Kinglet  and Common Loon. Birder extraordinaire Larry Zoller will help 
us identify the birds we see and hear 
as we hike to different areas of the park.

Kids Discover Nature:
"Friendly Snowman"
Monday, January 14    11-noon
ages 1 - 6 year w/ accompanying adult
Build a snowman for the wildlife this winter. In their b ook,  A Stranger in the Woods, C. Sams and J. Stoick create an exciting story for young children to discover the  joy o f winter wildlife.

Hoo Hoo, Who's There?
Friday, January 18     2 - 3 pm
For all ages
Hoo-hoo, who's that owl? Join us as we soar into the world of owls as we read
All About Owls by Jim Arnosky. We will learn amazing facts about the owls that live in this part  of NC and practice our hooting  to learn their calls.

Winter Fun
Monday, January 21    10 am - noon
For ages 7 - 12 years
Winter can be a fun season for outdoor activities if you are dressed properly. Bundle up and come  out fo r some nature exploration and indoor crafts.

Winter Campfire Under the Stars
Friday, February 1   5:30 - 7:30 pm
For all ages
Cozy up to the fire and enjoy an evening outside roasting marshmallows and listening to stories.  As the sky darkens, we will move to the field for moon and star gazing, or if cloudy we will take a night hike to see and hear who is out and about.

Nuts About Squirrels 
Friday, January 18     11 am - noon
For all ages
I n honor of Squirrel Appreciation Day, come learn all about our familiar furry friends! NC is home to five different squirrels, we will have several mounts for viewing. Learn to pick out a squirrel next and how they are different from birds on a short hike. Nibble on sunflower seeds.

GBBC Bird Walk along the ATT
Friday, February 15      8 - 10 am
For ages 6 and up 
(children should be able to observe quietly)
Wood Duck-National Audubon Society   As part of our Great Backyard Bird Count programs, we will observe and count  the variety of birds that can be found  along the Trail as we hike to the 
Beaver Creek Bridge.
