You still have time to reserve your seat and join GLSTC on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, from 5 pm - 8 pm for our Annual Meeting!  You do not want to miss our keynote speaker, Mike Schlappi.

Mike's story is a moving and powerful example of the importance of safety. At the age of 15 Mike was shot in the chest, by a friend, at point blank range; paralyzing 2/3 of his body. Mike faces challenges daily because of the split second decision that was made in regards to safety or the lack thereof. His compelling message changes the way people think about carelessness and the magnitude of their decisions in the workplace.   Click here to view event flyer.

Did You Know?  It's Women in Construction Week!

Great Lakes Safety Training Center would like to give a BIG Shout Out and thank you to each and every woman out there in the construction field. Keep up the great work and continue to stride to the top of your career.
Ladder
National Ladder Safety Month!
No matter what your workplace environment is -- an office, store, sports-center or the outdoors, stepladder safety is essential.

Injuries suffered from the misuse of stepladders, or using a substitute such as a chair or boxes are among the top 10 in the workplace. Even a fall from a short distance can cause sprains, bruising, or more serious injuries.

There are easy and simple guidelines to follow when using a stepladder.

* Use a proper stepladder, not a substitute, such as chairs, boxes, or people.

* Check the stepladder before you use it to ensure no parts are broken, cracked or missing.

* Ensure the stepladder is fully opened and placed on a firm level surface.

* The area around the base and top of the stepladder should be clear of any obstructions or debris.

* The user should have 3 points (two hands and one foot or two feet and one hand) of contact with the stepladder at all times.

* If the stepladder in your workplace is damaged or unsafe, do not attempt to use the ladder and inform your supervisor/manager.

When operating any equipment at the workplace, use common sense and remember y ou are responsible for working safely.
