Coral Gables is Among Top 100 Best Places to Live

Livability.com, an online resource that defines the best places to live in America, has released its 2018 Top 100 Best Places to Live and the City of Coral Gables has rightfully earned a spot in this year's ranking. More than 2,100 cities with populations between 20,000 and 350,000 were evaluated in this landmark study. The site uses the best data and research available to determine what makes a Best Place to Live and identify the cities that embody these qualities. In addition to being one of the Best Places to Live, Coral Gables is also among the Top 10 Cities for Book Lovers. Read more...

Venice in the Gables Art Project Celebrates Completion of Streetscape

The City of Coral Gables is celebrating the completion of the Downtown Miracle Mile and Giralda Streetscape Project with an exciting art project, Venice in the Gables. Eight foot tall replicas of Venetian mooring posts, resembling the picturesque canal posts for the gondolas of Venice, will grace the streets of Downtown Coral Gables for a temporary exhibit inviting visitors and residents to interact with the new Streetscape. These posts will be designed and painted by creative artists, supported by sponsors, and made available at the end of the exhibit for purchase at a charitable auction. Read more...

Passport Execution Fee Goes Up to $35

Effective April 2, 2018, the passport execution fee will increase from $25 to $35 for U.S. passport applicants using the DS-11 form, such as first-time applicants over the age of 16, children under 16, and applicants who re-apply when a previous passport is lost or stolen. This increase does not apply to adults eligible to renew passports by mail using the DS-82 form. Other passport application fees remain the same. The City of Coral Gables Passport Acceptance Facility is located at 4520 Ponce de Leon Boulevard and is open Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Read more....

The Crown Prince of Japan Visits Coral Gables

Naruhito, Crown Prince of Japan Kōtaishi Naruhito Shinnō, the elder son of Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, visited Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden on March 17. He toured three state-of-the-art facilities including the Wings of the Tropics butterfly exhibit, where he witnessed a spectacular release of butterflies from Central America and South America in the exhibit's Japanese-inspired design. Treating Stroke Patients with Top Care in Coral Gables

Did you know that if you suffer a stroke in Miami-Dade County, you have the highest chances of survivability and recovery in the nation? That's because stroke care in Miami-Dade County is provided by Local Emergency Medical Service (EMS) agencies that belong to the Miami-Dade Stroke Consortium, a group of several neurologists and support staff providing top care for patients.  The Coral Gables Fire Department is one of six fire rescue departments offering pre-hospital emergency services associated with this consortium. Our first responders are trained in early recognition at the onset of stroke symptoms that establish a numeric score to determine whether they should be transported to a primary or comprehensive care center. Since using this response system, stroke patients in Miami-Dade have the highest percentages of positive outcomes ever recorded and is a model for other healthcare systems around the country. In 2017, the Coral Gables Fire Department responded to and transported 47 stroke patients.  Read more...

Meet Your Neighborhood Team Leader: Sergeant Rhonda Jenkins

If you are a Coral Gables resident living south of US1, Sergeant Rhonda Jenkins is the officer you want to know. She is your area's Neighborhood Team Leader (NTL), one of four specially trained police officers assigned to specific neighborhoods focused on delivering customized police services. NTL Jenkins works closely with her assigned area to identify and address issues related to crime, traffic and quality of life. We have already introduced NTLs Bob Alonso and Joe Fleres. FDOT is doing drainage work on Bird Road (SW 40 Street) and Red Road (SW 57 Avenue) until April. Expect a right lane closure along Bird Road traveling westbound from Alhambra Circle to Red Road, and a right turn lane closure along SW 57 Avenue.

FDOT is doing roadway construction work along LeJeune Road (SW 42 Avenue) at Bird Road (SW 40 Street) until April. Construction will be done on stages and will require to periodically close travel lanes.
