Dear Saint Rose Families,

This weekend Saint Rose Catholic School will kick off the national Catholic Schools Week with our annual open house. All school families and parishioners are invited to attend our open house on Sunday, January 27 from 1-3 pm.  Our school community will celebrate all that a Catholic education at Saint Rose has to offer.  Visitors will be able to see the good work our students have done this year ranging from 8th grade service projects to preschool artwork.  The gym will host musical presentations from the upcoming musical, Music Man Jr., which will take the stage later this spring.  Prospective families can visit with teachers and current families to learn more about our school.  Current families are able to see the work their students have done and they can visit the next grade level to see what is coming their way. We will also be happy to set up a shadowing day so that your 1st-7th grade student can see what daily life at Saint Rose School is like.   Come and see why Saint Rose School is an institution with Academics Anchored in Faith!
Thank you,

Sincerely,
Bryon Borgelt

PAYSCHOOL CENTRAL

Annual  Ski/Snow Board  Trip Trip - January 31
Sign-Up Extended to January 25!

The annual Saint Rose middle school  ski  trip is back. The purpose of the  trip is to provide our students with the opportunity to try something new, have some fun and bond as middle school students. We will also connect the  trip to our science curriculum.

Students will  travel by Blue Lakes Bus for this one day  trip. We depart from Saint Rose School at 8:00 am and return around 7pm. Students need to arrive and be on the bus by 7:45 am. We will head to Mad River Mountain. This is a perfect  trip for beginners and more advanced  skiers. Lessons are offered free of charge and the staff does a nice job of making sure the kids are ready for the mountain.  All students will be provided a lift ticket, rental, lesson, helmet and lunch. Parents may want to send extra money for snacks during the day as well as a quick stop at a fast food spot on the way back to school. Space is limited to 100 students.

Saint Rose understands that  skiing is not an interest that all of students share. Students that do not attend the  trip will participate in fun activities at school.

Cost= $70

Attention Girls Grades 3-8!

Empowered...strong...inspiring...healthy...FUN!
These are just a few of the words that have been used to describe the Girls on the Run program from past participants. We are excited to announce that the Girls on the Run program is returning for another season!   We had so much fun and learned so much last season we are gearing up for the spring! We will offer a different curriculum with new games and activities, but cover the same core values and tackle important life lessons.  New participants are encouraged to sign up and girls who have already completed the program are invited back!
If we have enough girls sign up and find volunteer coaches ... we will be off and running in March!    Practices will be on Mondays and Fridays after school. Online registration opens Monday, February 4th.

Guidance Lesson Recap:
This month's lesson focused on the lifeskill of common sense in having good judgment  in every day life. From listening to directions to solving problems on your own, there are  many different ways one can use common sense in their life.

Grade K: We read the book  Terrible, Awful, Horrible Manners by Beth Bracken. The  story was about a monkey that acted in a way that did not use good judgment or common  sense. In the story, he did not use manners and etiquette when eating with his family. The  tables turned when his parents decided to act in a similar way and he realized the  importance of using common sense and manners in every day life. As a class, we talked  about ways we need to use good judgment at school with our actions every day.

Grades 1/2: We read the book  Lola's Rules on Friendship by Jenna McCarthy. The story  emphasized many different ways in which we use our judgment and common sense to  treat each other. From compromising to sharing, we discussed many ways we use  common sense to treat each other kindly at school.

Grade 3: We read the story  No Slurping, No Burping A Tale of Table Manners by
Lorelay Bove. The story was about a father who struggled with showing the best manners  at the dinner table with his family. From slurping his soup to yelling across the table, the  silly story emphasized how proper manners and good judgment in all situations is  important. As a class, we talked about positive ways to use good judgment throughout the  school day and at home with family.

Grades 4/5: We continued to pilot the  Be Kind Program in learning about inclusiveness  this month.

Grades 6-8: As a class, we discussed how to use common sense and our own judgment in  every day life. From thinking before we act or using our manners, we discussed many  ways to use common sense. We also discussed how organization and study skills are  important in using good judgment to be successful in school. Students completed an  activity that taught them the structure and tips of taking good notes during a lecture.  Students had the chance then to review their own note taking skills and ways to improve  them. Lastly, students had the opportunity to organize their binders/lockers to stay on top  of their study skill routine.

Saint Rose School theme for the year:

Love Life!

January Theme:  Abortion

During January every year pro-life citizens mourn the verdict of Roe vs Wade which resulted in the legalization of abortion in the United States.  Many pro-life people flood Washington for the March for Life to protest that ruling, to show support in solidarity, and to ask Congress to enact laws that protect innocent life.

Abortion is a difficult topic to explain to young children.  Please click  here  to read an article that may help parents relay this horror to children when the parents feel it is time.

All collections for Mass and alternate dress this month will be given to Heartbeat of Toledo, an agency that helps women to continue their pregnancies.  Thank you for your generosity.
