Iranian American Women's Leadership Conference in Los Angeles 


It is with immense excitement that the Iranian American Women Foundation announces its 16th Iranian American Women's Leadership Conference

The conference will be hosted on April 29th, 2018 at The Westin Bonaventure Hotel from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.


Ticket Information:
Early Bird:  $175.00 before April 8th, 2018
General Admission:  $225.00 starting on April 9th, 2018

New York

Roya Khadjavi is an independent curator and cultural producer based in New York. She has largely focused on the work of young Iranian Artists working both in Iran and beyond its borders, seeking not only to support their artistic endeavors but also to facilitate awareness and cultural dialogue between artistic communities. In 2014, Khadjavi co-curated Portraits: Reflections by Emerging Iranian Artists, featuring emerging artists born, raised and educated in Iran, followed by Between Invitation and Intrusion: A Conversation in Form in 2015. In 2016 she curated the warmly received exhibition Strappa: Dialogue and Performance followed by the groundbreaking exhibition IRAN X CUBA: Beyond the Headline.

Northern California

During the first adult phase of her life, Sima worked in semiconductor industry holding senior engineering positions at Intel, National Semiconductor, and KLA-Tencor Corporations. She earned her B.S. degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Science and Technology in Tehran, Iran, where she ranked first in her graduating class. And her M.S. degree in Materials Science & Engineering from University of Washington in Seattle. While in graduate school, Sima also developed a program for the Women In Engineering (WIE), which resulted in increased number of women completing first year of engineering studies. The WIE Association in US awarded her 2 times for her contributions.

  Fatemeh Burnes
Southern California

IAWF would like to welcome Ms. Fatemeh Burnes as IAWF's Visual Arts Advisor.

Fatemeh Burnes was born in Tehran, Iran. She first came to the United States in 1973 and spent a five-year period between three continents before settling in Southern California in 1977. Classically trained in Persian art and poetry, Ms. Burnes was mentored by her uncle, poet Salek Esfahani, and featured on poetry radio programs. She also studied biology, modern Persian poetry & western artistic practice, including painting, drawing, printmaking, and photography in Iran, Europe, and California. She received her BFA and MFA in art and art history from CSU Fullerton, where she also studied exhibition design.

Angella Nazarian is a bestselling author and a noted speaker. With a background as a professor of Psychology and faculty member at Mount Saint Mary's College, California State University Long Beach, and Los Angeles Valley College for eleven years, she has been conducting workshops and seminars on topics related to women's personal development and visionary leadership and has been a keynote speaker at various national events and conferences. Her award-winning poetry published in New Millennium Writings, and several of her works have been published in MO+TH publication. Both of her books "Life as a Visitor" and the newly released "Pioneers of the Possible: Celebrating Visionary Women of the World" have become bestsellers for the publisher, and have garnered glowing reviews from: Arianna Huffington, Tina Brown, Martha Stewart, Diane von Furstenberg. Angella Nazarian lives in Los Angeles with her husband and sons.

 
Mentee  Spotlight

Like many immigrant Iranians Faezeh Malakouti Rad is a third culture kid; she was born in Tehran but grew up and lived in China, Australia, Switzerland, Iran and the US.  Faezeh's  area of expertise is the intersection of Adult Learning (Learning and Development) and Information Technology. She has worked as a Technical L&D specialist in companies like InterSystems, Amazon and Sprinklr. Her newest passion is the field of HR IT. She moved to Zurich, Switzerland from NYC in January 2018. Currently she spends most of her time learning German!

IAWF Scholarship Opportunities


The IAWF scholarships are to help students achieve their goals by providing them financial assistance based on their needs. Scholarships are available to current IAWF Mentorship  to Internship  Program participants. However, only a limited number of individuals will be selected to receive the scholarship. Scholarships are meant to assist the students with tuition, textbooks, and other course materials. Qualifying criteria include academic achievement, community service, and financial need.
