January 2019

Congratulations to brothers Jordan and Alex McKay, owners of Willowtree Farm in Port Perry, who have been  honoured as one Canada's latest Outstanding Young Farmers!

"It was a great honour to win Canada's Outstanding Young Farmer Award," Jordan shares with us. "We are also very proud to be part of the OYF Alumni, they are a very progressive and positive group of farmers from all sectors of agriculture."

Almost 60% of food produced in Canada is lost and wasted annually, according to a new report from Second Harvest and Value Chain Management International, The Avoidable Crisis of Food Waste.

The report comes after  a year-long research project, and finds that of that 60% of wasted food, 32% is avoidable and edible food that could be redirected to our communities.

View the full report on Second Harvest's website here.

The province is currently accepting feedback on proposed changes to the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe.

Details of the proposed changes will be available on the Environmental Registry of Ontario and the Ontario Regulatory Registry for public comment until February 28th.
