Congratulations to our Children's Choir! They received the highest rating of Superior at
the
Choral Festival in Kings Dominion on Friday, May 4. Their average score out of 100 points was 96. They were competing in the middle school division and won first place for which they received a trophy. They also received a trophy for best overall in the choral division out of all participating choirs. We are so proud of them, and grateful to Mr. Don Cotton for his wonderful musical
direction.
Our band will travel to Hershey Park on Friday to perform in the band festival, and enjoy some amusement park fun! They will join with Holy Family and Blessed Sacrament schools.
On Thursday, we will celebrate and honor our Blessed Mother with our annual May Crowning during the school Mass. This is a beautiful tradition that is a great witness of faith for our students. Please join us for this celebration.
This week we began our final round on standardized testing for the school year. Our 8
th
graders also took the World Language exam that high schools use in their decisions regarding language placement. Please keep our students in your prayers as we approach the end of the school year. Remember to watch the school calendar for upcoming events, such as field trips, field day, Spring concert and Art Festival, and other end of year celebrations!

Positions Open 2018-2019 Year
|
We have many volunteer jobs here at St. Ambrose to fit everyone's lifestyle and schedule. There are so many opportunities you should easily find some way to volunteer and share your time and talents with our dedicated teachers and students.
One such wonderful opportunity is to be a member of the PTO Board. This year we have several slots opening due to term limits.
The positions of President, Secretary, Service Chair and Social Chair are currently vacant for the 2018-2019 school year and nominees will be voted in at the meeting
May 31st meeting in conjunction with the Spring Concert. If you are interested in learning more about how our school works from the inside out please take the time to pray to discern if you are being called to one of the positions. The members of the Board who will remain in place are a wonderful group and all really invested in making St. Ambrose the best it can be. If you are interested, please email

It is that time of year again, Field Day!! This year it will be on
Friday, May 25th

Seasonal Allergies (Hay Fever)
About Seasonal Allergies

It's your son's third sneezing fit of the morning, and as you hand him another tissue you wonder if these cold-like symptoms - the sneezing, congestion, and runny nose - have something to do with the recent weather change. If he gets similar symptoms at the same time every year, you are likely right: seasonal allergies are at work.
Seasonal allergies
, sometimes called "hay fever" or seasonal allergic rhinitis, are allergy symptoms that happen during certain times of the year, usually when outdoor molds release their spores, and trees, grasses, and weeds release tiny pollen particles into the air to fertilize other plants.
The immune systems of people who are allergic to mold spores or pollen treat these particles (called allergens) as invaders and release chemicals, including histamine, into the bloodstream to defend against them. It is the release of these chemicals that causes allergy symptoms.
People can be allergic to one or more types of pollen or mold. The type someone is allergic to determines when symptoms happen. For example, in the Mid-Atlantic States, tree pollination is February through May, grass pollen runs from May through June, and weed pollen is from August through October - so children with these allergies are likely to have increased symptoms at those times. Mold spores tend to peak midsummer through the fall, depending on location.
Even children who have never had seasonal allergies in years past can develop them. Seasonal allergies can start at almost any age, though they usually develop by the time someone is 10 years old and reach their peak in the early twenties, with symptoms often disappearing later in adulthood.

I accept submissions from teachers, staff, and parents. If you know of something interesting going on in our community, or want to give a shout out to someone at the school, I'd love to add it to the Buzz. I especially enjoy pictures. Please contact Mrs. Rowley to make sure that we have permission to publish pictures of every student in the picture. Pictures need to be less than 5MB. Thanks so much!
