2019 Dog Licenses
Dogs over the age of three months are required by state law to have a dog license. Annual licenses are issued by the Dauphin County and can be purchased at PADogLicense.com or at the Township Municipal Building, 600 Clearwater Road, Hershey.
Leaf Collection
Gets Easier in Derry Township
The Department of Public Works will be much more efficient with leaf collection in 2019 with the replacement of one tow-behind leaf collector and the purchase of a second one.

The Township was awarded a grant by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection through a Recycling Development and Implementation Grant.

The grant will provide $114,613 of the $127,348 cost for two tow-behind leaf collectors.
Kindergarten Registration Sessions Scheduled
Pre-registration for children in Derry Township who will be five years of age before September 1, 2019 and plan to attend kindergarten this coming fall is NOW OPEN on the Derry Township School District website at www.hershey.k12.pa.us .
Remember, the online pre-registration does not complete the enrollment process. Parents and guardians should also plan to attend a registration session at the Early Childhood Center (450 Rear Homestead Road, Hershey). Walk-in registration will be offered as follows:  

  • Parents and guardians of prospective students with last names beginning with A-L may attend walk-in registration on Wednesday, February 27, from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m., 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., or 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

  • Parents and guardians of prospective students with last names beginning with M-Z may attend walk-in registration on Thursday, February 28 from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m., 1:00 - 3 p.m., or 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

  • A third date will be offered from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 -3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1 for those unable to attend an earlier session.
Parking will be available in the side lot adjacent to the Early Childhood Center .

Friends of the Hershey Public Library Present Storyteller Dovie Thomason
Dovie Thomason returns to the library on Sunday, January 27 at 2:00 p.m. with the wise, boisterous teaching tales of her Lakota and Plains Apache relatives. Stories come alive in listeners’ imaginations as Dovie shares her culture with understanding, sly humor and astonishing vocal transformations.

Whether trickster tales or animal stories, Dovie gives us a contemporary vision of the rich cultures of the First Nations of North America.

Registration is not required for this program which is suitable for children in grades K-5. The library is located at 701 Cocoa Avenue.

Hershey High's Chem-Med Club to Teach a Fun Science Activity!
Students in grades 3-5 are invited to join students from Hershey High School's Chem-Med Club as they lead fun science activities on Tuesday, January 29 at 4:00 p.m. at the Hershey Public Library, 701 Cocoa Avenue. 

Create colorful snowflakes and learn how to transform nail polish into beautiful art. Participants will take home a pamphlet filled with book recommendations you can get right here at the library, and ideas for experiments that you can do at home.

Registration is required and a safety form (available online , or to be picked up at the Children's desk) must be completed before the program. 
Teens Gather for Tea Time
A tea party for teens will be held on Wednesday, January 30 at 3:00 p.m. at the Hershey Public Library, 701 Cocoa Avenue.

High school students are invited to come for tea and nibbles and to learn how to navigate social spaces with etiquette and aplomb.
The Teen Lounge is Open!
High school students can drop in to the Teen Lounge at the Hershey Public Library on Thursday, January 31 between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to play PlayStation games (including online games like Overwatch and Fortnite), tabletop games such as Munchkin and 5-Minute Dungeon, or be creative with our art supplies. 

Make sure to view the books that are featured at the front of the room to see if there are any that you would like to check out. Snacks will be provided.

9th Annual Ice Skating Party to be Held Tonight at Hersheypark Arena
The Hershey Derry Township Historical Society will hold their annual ice skating event on Friday, January 25, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Kids will have a unique opportunity to skate with Coco, enjoy tasty treats, and have fun with their friends. Local historian Bob Shaffer, affectionately known as a "Rink Rat," will host a lecture on how the ice surface is created and how the Zamboni is used to create an ideal ice skating surface. Everyone will get an up-close look at the Zamboni and can have their picture taken with this iconic symbol of ice hockey.
As always, guests will also have the opportunity to enjoy a self-guided tour of the "Old Barn."
Admission is $5.00 per person with advance purchase of tickets at the Historical Society, or www. hersheyhistory.org , or $7.00 at the door.

The price includes skate rental, tours, lectures, and light refreshments. Children under five skate free.

Parking is available at no charge. Please enter the Arena at Box Office 4.

Understand the 'why' behind many districts and the effects on citizens, the economy, politics, and our democracy. Find out how you can help reform the process in Pennsylvania.
 
The event will take place on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, 6:30 p.m. (program follows a short meeting) at the Hershey Public Library, 701 Cocoa Avenue. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
Hershey Symphony to Raise the Temperature with A Night in the Tropics Concert
The Hershey Symphony Orchestra turns up the heat on its 50 th season with A Night in the Tropics, featuring music from Mexico and the Caribbean, on Friday, February 15, at 8:00 p.m. at The Hershey Theatre.

Perfect for Valentine’s weekend, the concert will include Gershwin’s “Cuban Overture,” Moncayo’s “Huapango,” and Gottshalk’s “Night in the Tropics.”

Special guest artist Tito Puente, Jr. joins the Orchestra to make the night even hotter. The bandleader/musician is the son of the late, great, mambo musician Tito Puente. He carries on his father's legacy by presenting much of his father's repertoire including the famed “Oye Como Va.” Tito Puente, Jr. has become an audience favorite in performing at arts centers, symphony halls and jazz festivals worldwide, performing more than 300 shows over the past five years.

Chili Cook-Off and Square Dancing
Homemade chili and square dancing will highlight Derry Presbyterian Church’s 20th Annual Chili Cook-Off and Square Dance, set for 6:30-9:30 p.m., Friday, February 22. The event will be held in the church’s fellowship hall at 248 East Derry Road, Hershey. There is no charge to attend, and all ages are welcome.

The evening will begin with a chili supper. Those attending should bring a dish to pass: salad, dessert, or a favorite chili recipe. Informal judging will determine cook-off winners in the chili and dessert categories.  

Following the supper, caller David Kreiter of Lititz will lead dancers of all ages in a variety of line and square dances.

March is a Fantastic Time for a Caribbean Carnival
The Mortel High Hopes for Haiti Foundation will host Carnival in the Caribbean for Haiti on March 2, from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m. at the Purcell Friendship Hall at Milton Hershey School, 109 McCorkle Road, Hershey.

The evening will feature music by New Era Live, dinner provided by Rettew's Catering, dancing, a silent auction, and more.
