This week we go to
Terminal 5 at JFK Airport
to board our international flight on Royal Air Maroc to
Casablanca, Morocco
. Our flying time is 6 hours and 45 minutes (enough time to get several strolls down the aisle!). We will be landing less than 19 miles south of Casablanca at
Mohammad V International Airport
.
Casablanca
borders the Atlantic Ocean and is the largest city of
Morocco
. Casablanca is considered the economic and business center of Morocco although Rabat is the political capital.
Casablanca was likely
founded by the Berbers
by the seventh century B.C. Although Morocco has been independent since 1956 there are many Spanish and French influences remaining in the area around Casablanca.
During the time of French rule, almost half the population was European Christian. Since its independence, 99.9% of the population is Arab and Berber Muslims.
As we continue our Walk to Jerusalem, it is nice to know that the
average January temperature
in Casablanca is 55 degrees (F).
