Minnesota lives changed for the better
Individuals served by disability nonprofits across Minnesota live better and fuller lives because others are there to help them achieve their goals.

Here are a few examples from MOHR members:
Rock County Administrator Kyle Oldre, left, and employee Nathan Meyer.
Offering him skills training and a connection to the community, Rock County Opportunities (RCO) in Luverne matched Nathan Meyer with a county building and grounds maintenance job, which he has held for 8 years. RCO provides reliable support and additional training to make him successful. "I love my job and I love the people," said Meyer. Others enjoy his happy demeanor, reliability and motivation to do his job well.
Jordan began work at Winona ORC in 2010, doing a variety of assembly jobs in the community before joining the ORC's laundry facility.
Jordan operates large washing machines in Winona ORC's commercial laundry. "It helped me to move out of my parents' house and become independent," he said. Training and community job experience through the ORC have helped make him the engaged and productive person he is today.
Kallie Gahm from Mille Lacs County Area DAC in Milaca.
For up to 30 hours per week, Kallie Gahm in Milaca is at work, and supported by the Mille Lacs County DAC . She said it's been awesome.

"It is fun, and makes me happy. Plus, I love to get paid." Her father, Chuck, said Kallie is more independent, is learning a good work ethic and achieved her goal to earn a $500 paycheck. "The DAC is a friendly place," he said. Staff say Gahm inspires them with her positive attitude.
Andy, in black, is treated well by his coworkers at Docushred.
A skilled and knowledgeable worker, Andy at the Polk County DAC said his favorite thing about the job at Docushred is ending his week on a positive note with coworkers.

Staff at the program in East Grand Forks said Andy is funny and loves to joke around. If laughter is the 'best medicine," Andy exemplifies this value with humorous anecdotes through the day, all while performing quality work at DAC job sites, staff said.

Capitol: Best Life Alliance bills debut
The "Best Life Alliance" has introduced bills in the Minnesota House (HF 179) and Senate (SF 06), and is asking individuals to write their House members and urge support for disability services in February.

Direct support professionals are encouraged to view and complete or modify a template letter with questions and answers for their house member. Find your legislators' info here.
"My Life, my choices" is the theme of the Second Annual MOHR Life Enrichment Awards. Nominations are being accepted through the end of February.

MOHR members' efforts to serve individuals are multi-faceted, and the best are worthy of recognition.
