The Parkland school shooting was a horrible tragedy and it is heart wrenching to think of the students whose lives were cut short. I am continuing to pray for the families and students and encourage you to do so as well. All of your prayers were so helpful to me when I was recovering last summer, and I know these families will need all the support and prayers we can give them during this difficult time.

2018 Louisiana Special Session
Shortly before 5 pm, Monday March 5, the Louisiana Legislature adjourned Sine Die. This was 2 days before the official end of the session according to the Governor's call. The last few weeks of the special session accomplished absolutely nothing at a cost of about $60k per day. I have attached the report from the last week on the votes that were taken and bills debated, but as you can read the bills failed several times over again. All this means the "Fiscal Cliff" still has not been addressed and the Legislature will have to come back after the regular session to handle the fiscal issues. The Legislature will be back Monday March 12, 2018 to reconvene into their regular session. The link below is a comprehensive report based on the last week of session.
On Friday February 3, 2017 Governor John Bel Edwards issued his call for the 1st special session of 2017. The call included in the attached report includes the ability to legislate normal state operating expenses and to legislate the various methods of appropriations of state monies among other topics. The special session will last 9 days and is designed to plug an estimated $313 million shortfall for the current fiscal year.
The Government Activities Committee will be reviewing the slate of bills for the upcoming regular legislative session.

Five Year 2019-2024 Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Draft Proposed Program
On April 28, 2017, President Trump issued Executive Order 13795, outlining an America-First Offshore Energy Strategy. As a key piece of this strategy, Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke issued Secretarial Order 3350 directing BOEM to begin the process of developing a new Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Program (National OCS Program) to replace the 2017-2022 Program.
The first of three proposals for 2019-2024, the Draft Proposed Program, was released on January 4, 2018. Comments on the DPP or Programmatic EIS should be submitted by March 9, 2018.

At its core, the Schedule C is nothing more than a profits and losses worksheet for sole proprietors and single-member LLCs (as long as the LLC hasn't elected to be taxed as a corporation). This form should be filed as an attachment to your personal income return. The form is far from the longest one the IRS has to offer (this one is a two-page, five-part form), but if you've never filed a Schedule C you're bound to feel confused by some of the language you encounter. But have no fear. All you'll find here is an explanation of what the Schedule C requires in the simplest language possible, so you can prepared when it's time to file.
