2018 Currier Lecture Focuses on Immigration

All alumni are invited to attend the 2018 Currier Lecture on Tuesday, March 6 at 6:30 p.m. in our dining hall. This year's lecture will feature the Community Refugee and Immigration Services ( CRIS) agency and its Executive Director Angela Plummer and Program Manager Tara Dhungana next month. The lecture series was founded in memory of Phil Currier, former head of Academy's Upper School and father of David Currier '02, whose zest for life overshadowed his untimely death in 1995. Its mission is to bring to Columbus Academy speakers whose lives and experiences exhibit self-challenge, provoke thought and are agents of positive change.
Alumni Weekend 2018

All alumni are invited to attend Alumni Weekend, featuring reunion classes ending in 3 and 8, which will be held on September 14-17, 2018. Alumni Weekend begins with alumni events on campus Friday (including tours and reception), CA community events on Saturday (including sporting events and a mud run), reunion class gatherings and wrapping up with the 10th Annual Golf Outing on Monday. A detailed schedule will be announced in the upcoming months but mark your calendars now!

Golf Ball for Reminder
The 10th Annual Columbus Academy Golf Outing will take place on Monday, September 17, 2018 with a 1:00 p.m. shotgun start at Columbus Country Club. The golf outing is designed to benefit financial aid in memory of George N. Corey, former Board of Trustees president and father of Michael Corey '01. Registration and sponsorship information will be announced soon.

In the 2018 Central Ohio Scholastic Art Awards, 21 students from Columbus Academy received Honorable Mentions or higher! Four pieces by three students received Gold Keys, eight pieces by six students received Silver Keys, and 25 pieces by 18 students received Honorable Mentions. The following Silver and Gold Key recipients' artwork was exhibited last month at Columbus College of Art & Design's Acock Gallery: (Gold Key) senior Muriel Goldfarb and juniors Sidney Derzon & Aisling Maguire, (Silver Key) seniors Alec Freytag, Muriel Goldfarb & Grace Yakam, juniors Julia Gurevitz, Aisling Maguire & Caroline Mallory, and eighth-grader Sidd Amirneni (whose work is featured in the article below). Those earning Honorable Mentions were seniors Kelley Marie Antoine, Briyana Dragin, Alec Freytag, Lauren Fumi, Muriel Goldfarb, Chris Heermann, Katie Jacoby, Tessa Lopresti & Ally Sabgir, juniors Sidney Derzon, Julia Gurevitz, Jenny L'Hommedieu, Aisling Maguire, Kayla Podgurski, Jordan Skilken, Kaija Snyder & Maddie Tuckerman, and eighth-grader Isa Robeano. 
Sports News

It was standing-room only at last month's college signing celebration for seniors Kelley Marie Antoine (field hockey, Wittenberg University), Maddie DeAscentis (field hockey, DePauw University), Khloe Dubenion (track and field, Ohio Wesleyan University), Davis Friedman (baseball and football, University of Rochester), Alyssa Kim (golf, Washington University in St. Louis), Esther Lawrence (diving, Harvard College), Herman Moultrie (football, Georgetown University), Clare Neltner (soccer, Wittenberg University), Olivia Ryan (field hockey, Babson College), Angus Soderberg (soccer, Kenyon College), Sam Vogel (golf, Hamilton College) and Nick Watson (cross country and track, Washington and Lee University)!
At the Division II swimming state finals, our boys won two individual state titles on the way to matching last year's best-ever finish of third in the team standings while our girls placed 12th out of more than 50 schools competing! Academy junior Jacob Eismann led the way by tying for first in the backstroke, taking third in the 100 freestyle, swimming the opening leg of our third-place medley relay and anchoring the state champion 400 free relay. In his final high school meet, senior Max Dreisbach finished third in the 200 free and seventh in the butterfly, led off the 11th-place 200 free relay and joined Jacob, junior Jack Campbell and sophomore Mike DeAscentis on the winning 400 free relay. For our AquaVike girls, junior Jordan Skilken was state runner-up in diving and senior Esther Lawrence placed fourth while sophomore Annalise Grammel, senior Jane Li and juniors Sarah Cabré & Sammie Kass also made the podium as the 8th-place 400 free relay squad.
