Beneficial Ownership Rules for PACs
As part of the increased enforcement of the Bank Secrecy Act, there are new bank account registration requirements affecting PACs. Chuck Kettenacker, VP-Campaign and Nonprofit Banking at Access National, provides some timely advice for PAC managers and their treasurers about these new enforcement rules and the associated paper work.
PAC Payroll Deduction and Disclaimer Errors Result in $92,650 Civil Penalty
A labor union raised funds for its PAC using the “reverse check-off” system which is in violation of FEC law. And although this enforcement matter involved a labor union, the payroll deduction rules at issue also apply to corporations and associations soliciting funds for their PACs.
FEC Shutdown Announcement
Electronic filers with reports due during the shutdown may file, but FEC staff will not be available to resolve any technological problems that could arise and prevent timely filing. Accordingly, the Commission will not pursue administrative fines against filers with reports due during the shutdown who fail to file on a timely basis, so long as they file within 24 hours after the Commission resumes operations.
McAuliffe uses State PAC to help Iowa, NH Democrats
McAuliffe’s PAC raised more than $300,000 in the second half of 2018. The PAC’s spending in recent months has included money for staff, travel and donations to the Democratic parties in Iowa and New Hampshire — both early voting states in presidential primaries.
Gillibrand rejects Super PAC support
