Greetings from the Burke's Grandparents' Council!
|
This fall, as we recognize two years since the inception of the Council, we look forward to Burke's autumn traditions, making new memories with our granddaughters both on and off campus, and spending time with each other as we find creative ways to support the girls.
As we reflect on the last two years, we hope that the Council is carrying out its objective of giving current grandparents added opportunities to connect with their granddaughters and to be part of their learning experience. This insight to the girls' education comes in the form of volunteer opportunities and having access to Head of School Michele Williams, staff, and faculty at special events throughout the year just for grandparents. This allows us to witness first-hand Burke's mission in action, as the school continues to educate, encourage, and empower our granddaughters. We may also have the opportunity to become involved in other activities ranging from assisting with events to helping arrange guest speakers.
With that in mind, we would like to offer you a fun way to be involved in your granddaughter's academic experience by inviting you to become a member of the Grandparents' Council. To learn more about joining the Council or about volunteer opportunities associated with being a member, stop by our welcome table at the annual Family Festival on Saturday, October 20. If you cannot make it to Festival and would like more information about the Grandparents' Council, please contact Erica Obando, Communications and Advancement Associate, at 415.751.0177, ext. 301, or

Family Festival at Burke's!
Save the date! Festival is on Saturday, October 20, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This year, we are going to lean in to the changes on campus and celebrate the rebuild. Our Festival team has already adapted wonderfully to the construction, and we know you all will too. We are so excited that so many Burke's community members have joined the team and look forward to seeing everyone at the big event!

Burke's Gets a Facelift
This summer's construction project did not slow down our usual busy start to the school year! The Burke's campus has been in full swing since August 22, when faculty and staff gathered back together to begin planning for the new year and strategizing how to overcome hurdles that construction would surely bring. The motto for the year?

If you were given a stack of newspapers and 24 inches of masking tape, how would you create a structure to support your own body weight? That was the challenge recently put before Burke's sixth graders in their science class.

Faculty Profile: Dana Perkins
As any eighth grader can tell you, the high-school admissions process is one of the most stressful times in their young lives. Dana Perkins came to Burke's in the 2016-17 school year uniquely positioned to usher those students through our already strong high-school counseling program. More.
