Council Adopts Resolution to Wave Penalties  for Late Payments for Federal Employees
Westland, MI (January 23, 2019) - On Tuesday, January 23, the Westland City Council passed a resolution to wave any penalties accrued due to late payments of city water bills by unpaid federal workers.

As the longest government shutdown in American history drags on, 420,000 government employees have gone without pay for over a month.

The Westland City Council passed a resolution in order to provide relief to federal workers who reside in the City of Westland.  Westland residents affected by the shutdown can contact the city's Finance Department to receive a waiver upon verification of residency and proof of federal employment.

"As a Compassionate City, we understand that many federal employees are in dire financial situations as the federal government regards them as political pawns," commented Mayor Wild.  "Federal employees residing in the City of Westland may have a difficult time paying their city water bills on time, and we want to make sure that it's one less thing for them to worry about during this difficult time."
