Community conversation around school start/end times Feb. 6
Eden Prairie Schools invites parents/guardians, students and staff to participate in a facilitated conversation around start and end times across our district.  The Feb. 6 meeting is at Eden Prairie City Center, 8080 Mitchell Rd., in the Heritage Rooms.  The meeting will include remarks from  Dr. Conrad Iber , Professor of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at the University of Minnesota.

Following Dr. Iber’s presentation, attendees will participate in a  world café . This discussion format allows large groups to synthesize and analyze information effectively. Data from community conversations will be collected by Eden Prairie Schools and used as part of a months-long process to decide whether the district should change its start and end times.

No decisions have been made. Eden Prairie Schools is gathering academic research, parent/guardian and employee input and feedback from community sessions to determine next steps. If a change is to be made, the decision would be made in fall of 2020 and go into effect for the 2021-22 school year. A task force that is representative of Eden Prairie Schools will be convened in March to study the matter in depth. Individuals interested in the task force should look for an application form on Feb. 7 at  www.edenpr.org/starttimes .

Additional community sessions will be conducted on the following dates, all are 6-8 p.m.:
  • March 12, Eden Prairie Community Center, 16700 Valley View Road;
  • April 9, Eden Prairie High School East Commons;
  • April 21, Eden Prairie High School East Commons; and
  • May 14, Eden Prairie Community Center, 16700 Valley View Road.

Referendum Tax Rate - Good News
Last year, Eden Prairie voters approved a referendum to fund Designing Pathways, the plan to achieve our academic vision. Budget preparations recently completed for the 2020-21 school year show that the tax impact on the average home will be nearly 60 percent less than estimated in May 2019.
