Wednesday May 9th | 1:15 pm | Hampton Room above Mallot Commons at Scripps
Guest speaker David Shearer, Executive Director of Claremont Heritage, will review the groundbreaking 1950 Sixteen Architects Exhibition that happened at Scripps College, Lang Art Gallery and featured innovative architecture and design that emerged after WWII; examine shifts in culture and lifestyle; and discuss other influences: the G.I Bill, the Case Study House Program, new materials and technology, the automobile, leisure activities, and indoor/outdoor living. Architect Whitney Smith curated Sixteen Architects, with students from Scripps College's design department-under the direction of Jean Goodwin Ames - designing and constructing the display system. Julius Shulman's photographs of the gallery exhibit were featured in the April 1950 edition of Arts & Architecture Magazine.
The 12 noon lunch is sold out but there is additional seating available for the 1:15 pm talk -

Please join Claremont Heritage in welcoming artist Jen Rosen,
who is celebrating the release of her new children's book, Walks With the Wind Under Her Feet, as well as some recent paintings!
Exhibition Opening Reception will be held during First Saturday Artwalk on June 2nd from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the Ginger Elliott Center at Garner House.
The Sunday event will take place in the Garner House Courtyard, right in the middle of Memorial Park. The potluck and reception begins at 4pm, Sunday June 3rd. Bring something delicious to share. There will be live music performed by Pride of Cucamonga and friends. This event is very kid-friendly. Feel free to spread the word to friends who you think might like to come. Hope to see you there!

California Historic Route 66 Association, who will share the history of Route 66 and why it continues to attract foreign and domestic travelers more than 30 years after it was decommissioned as a Federal Highway.
