FREE Food Boxes available for Distribution in the Glades through May - sign up your organization now!
If your organization wants to distribute the white food boxes to people in need in the Glades area, call us (Sandy 561-996-3310) to make an appointment for pick up. Pick up days will be May 8th, 9th, 15th, and 16th, from 10 am - 2 pm. Once you call and have a confirmed appointment for pick up, we will tell the specific pickup location here in the Glades.
The boxes contain items such as cereal, Chef Boyardee, trail mix, granola bars, Pop Tarts, pudding, and shelf stable milk. The goal is to feed as many people as possible, and feed again, until every food box goes out before the food's expiration date which is July of 2018.

LINC Care Coordination and Monitoring Workshop
Attend a Community LINC Workshop the FL LINC Project is a collaborative suicide prevention grant working to implement the Zero Suicide Initiative within systems throughout the State of Florida in partnership with the Florida Statewide Office of Suicide Prevention, the University of Central Florida, the University of South Florida, the Florida Council for Community Mental Health, managing entities and community health care and behavioral health care organizations.
Trainings are provided as free community outreach workshops through the FL Linking Individuals Needing Care Project by grant number 1 U79SMO61748 from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration under the Garrett Lee Smith Memorial Act.

Project C4OPE will connect families who have had been affected by overdose, or at high risk for overdose. We are meeting the 2nd Thursday of each month May - Sept. Glades PATCH Meeting
The Glades PATCH (Planned Approach To Community Health) is a program designed to help the community evaluate, plan and implement health education and disease prevention and intervention programs. Parent Power Hour/Kindergarten Summer Reading Program 2018
Parents, if your child is currently in Kindergarten this information are for YOU!
Bridges at Pahokee and the Loula V. York Branch Library are collaborating on a Summer Reading Program for the parents of children who will be entering first grade in 2018-2019. The Library calls this program "Parent Power Hours" as parents learn best practices to support their child's beginning reading skills.
Children, ages 3 and up, are invited to attend fun activities in the children's section and read stories with some very entertaining visitors (fire fighters and community engagement deputies).

In the last seven years, Richard Abedon has assisted over 500 Glades residents with accessing pro-bono legal assistance through volunteer work with The Glades Initiative. He has served thousands of others throughout Palm Beach County, many in dire need of legal services and advice.
In nominating him, The Glades Initiative CEO Karis Engle writes: "He is a kind and generous person who seeks no recognition for the time and effort he donates to others. We are honored that he is being recognized in this way by the Town of Palm Beach United Way."

PBSO/PAL Tri-City 2018 Basketball Academics and Mentoring Camp
PBSO/PAL Tri-City Basketball Academics and Mentoring Summer Camp is dedicated to providing student athletes with the proper training and tools necessary to help improve their life skills, fundamental skills, team work, offensive, and defensive skills in a fun and motivating environment. With over 500 youth attending since 2014 from ages 7-18, some have matriculated to college and the military. Third Glades Citizens Criminal Justice Academy to be Held in June
Members of the public are invited to attend the third annual Glades Citizen's Criminal Justice Academy. Sessions will be held on five consecutive Mondays at the Belle Glade Library/Civic Center. The classes are free, and dinner will be served. Anyone over the age of 14 is welcome, and up to 15 hours of community service credit can be earned.
The purpose of the Citizen's Criminal Justice Academy is to provide fundamental information to citizens of Palm Beach County regarding the criminal justice system and how decisions are made. Participants will see demonstrations, meet with decision makers, and tour the jail. It is a valuable opportunity to learn about procedures, meet experts, ask questions and see facilities in person. The Palm Beach County's Criminal Justice Commission, Sheriff's Office, and Office of Community Revitalization sponsor the academy.
