The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to
preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty those who are oppressed.
Luke 4:18

Finding Our Voices

This weekend there will be a march on our nation's capital, with simultaneous marches in several U.S. cities. Saturday's march is the youth march against gun violence. While there have been marches before, I sense a different spirit with the youth leaders of this protest. These young people have found their voices and seem to be persistent and determined in their pursuit of their aims, which are focused on school and community safety.

I recognize that there are many paths to the desired aim of safety in our communities. However, I believe that we are united in a resolve to work toward safer schools for our nation's children, as well as in our desire to have safer communities. What I appreciate about these young people is their unwillingness to be silenced. They have found their voices and they are speaking out.

While I have marveled and appreciated the resolve of these youth, I remain perplexed by the inability of our churches to get our messages out. Read more.
