Current Projects
Heritage Road at Apex Gulch work begins January 17

The City of Golden plans to begin construction to replace the culvert beneath Heritage Road at Apex Gulch. The concrete box culvert that carries Apex under Heritage Road is collapsing and must be replaced before it fails completely. To complete this work, road closures will be necessary.

Please download the map below for location and detours.  Construction was originally scheduled to begin on Monday, but due to snow, the revised start date is tomorrow, January 17, and should last 3 months, weather dependent.  Local access to Colfax will be by detour using 4th and Zeta.
You can also follow this project on the City's new social engagement platform www.guidinggolden.com.
Utility Replacement

The water main replacement on Johnson Road between 14th Ave and South Golden Road is now complete and will help ensure that there are minimal disruptions to the water supply in that area for years to come.
Gas Mains Replacement

Xcel Energy is replacing old gas mains from N. Ford Street to Texas Street. For questions, please contact Xcel directly at 800-895-4999.
Clean-up of the West Raw Water Pond

As part of the regular maintenance of the Raw Water Ponds, Water Treatment Plant staff removed deposited sediment from the West Raw Water Pond - a process which occurs every 10 to 15 years. The project was completed last week, with 250 truckloads removed. The capacity of the pond is now improved and water will flow more freely to the east pond.

Tax Season is coming - the IRS wants to remind everyone that help is available!

The IRS would like to remind taxpayers they have a variety of options to get help filing and preparing their tax return on IRS.gov, the official IRS website. Taxpayers can find answers to their tax questions and resolve tax issues online. The Let Us Help You page helps answer most tax questions, and the IRS Services Guide links to these and other IRS services.

Taxpayers can go to IRS.gov/account to securely access information about their federal tax account. They can view the amount they owe, pay online or set up an online payment agreement; access their tax records online; review the past 18 months of payment history; and view key tax
return information for the current year as filed. Visit
IRS.gov/secureaccess to review the required identity authentication process.

In addition, 70 percent of the nation's taxpayers are eligible for IRS Free File. Commercial partners of the IRS offer free brand-name software to about 100 million individuals and families with incomes of $66,000 or less.

The online fillable forms provide electronic versions of IRS paper forms to all taxpayers regardless of income that can be prepared and filed by people comfortable with completing their own returns.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) offer free tax help to people who qualify. Go to IRS.gov and enter "free tax prep" in the search box to learn more and find a nearby VITA or TCE site, or download the IRS2Go smartphone app to find a free tax prep provider. If eligible, taxpayers can also locate help from a community volunteer. Go to IRS.gov and click on the Filing tab for more information.

For more information, please see the full news release.
Free Radon Gas Test Kits Available through January

In Jefferson County, about half of homes tested have high levels of radon. Radon exposure is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers and there is a simple way to prevent it. In recognition of National Radon Action Month, Jefferson County Public Health (JCPH) is providing free radon test kits to homeowners throughout the month of January to help keep families safe.

Read more about the dangers of radon and how you can pick up your free test kit on the City of Golden website.
Recycle Your Christmas Tree

Once the last present has been unwrapped and the tinsel and lights come off, your Christmas tree might look a little lonely. Why not give it a new life as mulch that nourishes Golden's gardens in 2018?

The City of Golden provides a quick and easy way for you to dispose of your Christmas trees after the ornaments and lights have come off. Drop off your trees now through Jan. 27 west of the intersection at Highway 93 & Golden Gate Canyon Road.

Please place your tree near the sign posted for tree recycling. Trees must be stripped of all ornaments, hardware, strings of lights and tinsel. This is for live trees only. The trees will be turned into mulch, which will eventually be available for free at the public pickup site on 11th Street, just west of the Clear Creek History Park.

For further details, contact the City of Golden Forestry office at 303-384-8141.
