2019 Vestry Nominations
The Vestry Nominating Committee has submitted to the Vestry the following slate of Parish Members who are eligible and willing to serve as Vestry Members to take the place of those Vestry Members whose terms will expire at the January 2019 Annual Parish Meeting. Stepping off of the Vestry are Frances DeBlasio (Senior Warden), Mary Jo McMillin, John Robertson, Mary Downie, John Gude.

Laura Zung  - Junior Warden Nominee
Laura was born in Los Angeles but grew up in Singapore, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in Economics and a B.A. in English. She also earned an M.B.A. from Stanford University. She is CEO of the Lancaster Health Group, a family business that owns and operates sub acute rehab facilities and a memory care assisted living. She and her husband, Nat Roberts, joined Christ Church seven years ago when they moved from Florida to Winnetka (for the weather). Laura has chaired the Youth Ministry Team, Co-chaired the Youth Minister Search Committee, and is a current co-chair of the Legendary Tent Party. She is a dedicated Rummage schlumper, and so far, she has avoided promotion to management. Laura and Nat are parents of the recognizable, red headed acolyte team, Brinton, William, and Isabel (who has moved to the choir).

Regan Christopoulos  - Vestry Nominee
Regan grew up in the small town of New Roads, Louisiana where she attended St. Paul's Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Ole Miss and earned her Medical Degree at LSU. She then moved to Chicago to complete her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Illinois. She now lives in Highland Park with her husband Nikos, and their 2 children, Lucas and Daphne. She first discovered Christ Church on a Sunday in June when they first moved to Highland Park and were "church shopping". The seersucker suits reminded her of home and she has been a parishioner ever since.

She has enjoyed participating in Rummage as a sporting goods chair and on the tent party committee; she has helped plan the Progressive Dinner Party and currently teaches Sunday School.

She practices Internal Medicine in Gurnee through Northshore University Health System. The Episcopal Church has always been an important aspect of her life and she is excited to be able to "give back" by being part of this vestry ministry.

Sarah Generes - Vestry Nominee
A 3rd generation cradle Episcopalian from Hot Springs, Arkansas, Sarah and her two girls, Maddie & Lily, joined Christ Church in 2015.  Currently the Director of Development for the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University, Sarah was a music/theater producer in Chicago for twenty years before moving to fundraising, working at Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Ravinia Festival booking concerts and developing new musical and theater works for the stage with artists from across many genres.

Before joining Christ Church, Sarah attended The Episcopal Church of St. James the Less in Northfield where she served two different terms on the Vestry, the second time as Junior/Senior Warden during the retirement and subsequent interim period & search following the retirement of the previous rector.

At Christ Church, Sarah leads the New Trier Township Food Pantry Ministry, serves as a Confirmation mentor, participates in Family Promise and Christmas Angels, and sings in the choir.

A lifelong musician, Sarah graduated from Vanderbilt University with degrees in English and Music.  She has sung in choirs since her first church choir experience at the age of 7 (her piano skills, however, are far less impressive).  A passionate advocate for the power of music and the arts to heal and to connect, Sarah is happy to jump on her soapbox at any moment to testify to the importance of arts in education and in business. "When words fail, music speaks" is a guiding principal that has proven itself time and again in Sarah's life, and she hopes to be a part of bringing that experience to others.

Patrick Rooney - Vestry Nominee
A native Californian, Patrick moved to Chicago in 2001. Patrick, his wife Katie and their three children joined Christ Church in 2015, and he currently serves as a confirmation mentor.

Professionally, Patrick has more than 20 years experience of starting, leading and growing companies. He has founded and sold a marketing services firm and a technology company and is currently the Chief Marketing Officer at Click Boarding, an onboarding technology company.

Patrick, Katie and their three children live in Northfield. Patrick holds a BA in Political Science and MBA from San Jose State University.

Scott Peters - Vestry Nominee
Scott (pictured on the right) grew up in Wilmington, Delaware before attending Dartmouth College and the Graduate Library School of the University of Chicago, where he met his wife Cynthia, a Wilmette native. After a few years as a librarian at the University of Chicago, Scott attended law school there. After a 31-year legal career, he recently retired from Exelon Corporation, where he was an assistant corporate secretary and advised senior management and the board of directors on securities law and corporate governance.

Scott and Cynthia were married at Christ Church in 1980, but Scott didn't become active in the parish until about 2002. Scott has taught church school and is a lector and intercessor, and he has served on the Benevolence Committee for over ten years. Scott joined the board of Tutoring Chicago, a 50 year-old organization providing one-on-one tutoring for elementary school children at four sites in Chicago, after reviewing its grant application for the Benevolence Committee, and he now serves on the executive committee and as the secretary to its board.

In retirement Scott is catching up on decades of books collected but not read, riding his bicycle, and walking Xoco (pictured on the left). Scott's son is a graphic designer with a small firm in Brooklyn. Scott's younger brother was ordained last month and is now a Missional Priest at Christ Episcopal Church in the little town of Bethlehem, CT.

Sunday, Feb. 10 - 4:15PM
A portion of our Prayers of the People each Sunday is the jarring part where we list the names of those shot and killed in Chicago each week. Join us for a firsthand look into the realities of gun violence in Chicago. Participants from the Family Matters' Boys-to-Men Program-young men who have been directly affected by gun violence- have made a short film called Silence the Violence. They speak to their reality and offer insights on ways to promote peace. We will watch the film in the sanctuary on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 4:15. It will be followed by a panel discussion with some of the participants in Boys-to-Men.

This event will be followed by the monthly Taizé service at 5:30PM.

Youth Art Workshop Series: On Galatians
This week CLAY and PAINT
Only 15 years after Jesus walked the earth, Saint Paul taught one of the first Christianchurches: " the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control" (Galatians 5:22-23). Are "love... patience, kindness, generosity...and self-control" still things people want and struggle with today?

Each Sunday following worship, the youth will study, reflect on, and create artwork inspired by Paul's Letter to the Galatians. Using the elements of art, we will explore a variety of materials to create pieces with clay, paint, fabric, and paper.

When we do construction and printmaking, there are a few household items we could use YOUR help collecting! Please bring the following to the Youth Room:
  • Styrofoam trays (what meat and some vegetables are sold on)
  • Cardboard boxes: If they are large, please flatten them. If they are smaller, like cereal or toothpaste boxes, please keep them intact.
  • Paper towel and toilet paper rolls
  • Egg Cartons (empty)

The workshop will culminate in an art gallery display on Sunday, May 12. Please let Megan know if you or your child would like to participate and/or be a curator.

All middle and high school youth are invited to participate. Friends and parents are always welcome! We will meet on the following Sunday mornings from 10:45-11:30AM in the Youth Room: January 27, February 3 and 24, March 3 and 10, April 14 and 28, and May 5.
Super Bowl Party - Sunday, February 3 at 5:00PM
All 7th - 12th graders, their families, and "the young at heart" are invited to our annual youth Super Bowl Party on Sunday, February 5 at 5PM at Frances DeBlasio's house: 480 Elder Lane, Winnetka, IL, 60093. While we watch the Super Bowl, we will decorate cookies and create cards for Valentine's Day care packages for our college students. We will also eat lots of tasty Super Bowl food! Please sign-up to bring something: chili, sandwiches, side, dessert or a sweet for the care packages!
