Our medical staff has had some interesting challenges and successes recently. Mrs. Plum was brought into CCS as a stray. She was underweight, but
very friendly. We took her to be spayed the next day, and it turns out she had a pyometra, which is a severely infected uterus. It actually burst during the surgery. The doctor said it would have ruptured within 24 hours, and if that had happened before she was brought in she would have died. We located her family, and she went happily home to recover.
Then there's Mikey, a very handsome orange and white tabby who was abandoned at a PetSmart in his harness and leash. We found that Mikey had a severe heart murmur. We had him checked out at Rocky Mountain Veterinary Cardiology at VRCC, where he was diagnosed with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy. Mikey doesn't need medication currently, but likely will in the future. He is so sweet, and even with his heart disease he was quickly adopted by a wonderful couple.
