Dec. 9 Northwest ISD Board Notes
The Northwest Independent School District Board of Trustees met Monday, Dec. 9, during a regularly scheduled meeting. This is a recap of the major actions and reports from the meeting. To see every item that was discussed or voted on, click here .
High School Academic Planning Guide approved
Following a discussion at a previous board meeting, trustees voted to approve the 2020-21 High School Academic Planning Guide, which is reviewed annually to provide students with easy planning for courses.

As part of the updates, some classes are added or removed based on student interest or state requirements, while others are updated in other ways (such as updating a course’s name to better reflect its topic).

Construction manager approved for Haslet Elementary renovation to professional space
Trustees approved Northstar Builders as the construction manager for the renovation of the current Haslet Elementary School as it becomes a professional space for district staff.

A new Haslet Elementary School is currently under construction using the district’s current prototype design, first used for Lance Thompson Elementary School. Northstar will renovate the existing Haslet Elementary so it becomes a professional space for staff development, offices and other uses.

Voters approved this work as part of the 2017 bond package. For information about progress of bond projects, visit www.nisdtxconstruction.org.

Long-Range Planning Committee provides update on progress
Tim McClure, assistant superintendent for facilities, provided an update to trustees on behalf of the Long-Range Planning Committee regarding their research and possible recommendations for potential construction, renovations and capital improvements to address population growth.

Committee members will review all options and provide recommendations to the school board at its Jan. 30 meeting. If trustees move forward with the recommendations, they would have until Feb. 14 to call a bond election for the spring when voters could cast their ballots.

Committee progress can be followed at www.nisdtxlrpc.org.
