21 September 2020 | Chartiers Valley Primary School
Dear Primary School Families,

Our students did a wonderful job on the Acadience tests last week. We have a few who will be finishing up this week. As a reminder, this assessment is a way for us to see where our students are academically and it will help us to provide support and enrichment in specific areas. Feel free to reach out to your child’s homeroom teacher if you have any questions.

We would love to see pictures of our CV Cyber students working from home so we can include them on Instagram and in our Monday Memos. Please email pictures to our secretary, Mrs. Bobbie Francis at rfrancis@cvsd.net.

Pictures will be taken this week by Lifetouch Studios. Detailed information is below for all students.

Chartiers Valley School District is now offering FREE breakfast and FREE lunch to every student, every school day. This includes to-go meals for students learning virtually.  To-go meals for virtual days (both CV Cyber and Hybrid) must be ordered using this Google Form. Orders must be placed 24 hours in advance and picked up at the following times:

  • CV Cyber Students can pick up to-go meals on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 am -12:00 noon at the High School.
  • Hybrid students with last names beginning in A-K can pick up meals for their remote days at the end of the day each Tuesday before leaving school.
  • Hybrid students with last names beginning in L-Z can pick up their to-go meals each Thursday before going home.

At this time, the free meals for all students will only run until December 31, 2020, at which time meal pay statuses will return to Paid, Free, or Reduced rates based on qualifications. Be sure to submit your free/reduced meal applications as soon as possible to avoid any gap in benefits. Applications can be found on the District website

As always, thank YOU for all that you do to support our students, our teachers and our CVPS Family. We truly appreciate the positive emails and support that we have received as we work together to navigate the circumstances we are facing.
Sincerely,

Anissa Rosenwald, Principal
Marc Hubert, Assistant Principal

Cyber Students
This Friday, September 25 will be our next Material Pick-Up Day for our cyber students. It will also be picture day for our cyber students. Pictures will be taken by Lifetouch Studios. The times for Material Pick-Up and Picture Day are as follows:

8:30-10:00 Kindergarten
10:30-12:00 First Grade
12:45-2:15 Second Grade
2:15-3:45 Make-up Time

When arriving for Material Drop-Off and Picture Day, please enter the building through Door 15 (near the “new” gym). You will make the first right to go on the stage for your picture. After your picture, please exit down the opposite side of the stage into the gym. There will be designated tables for materials pick-up. You will then exit through Door 13 or 14 in the gymnasium. Please maintain physical distance between you and others and remember to wear a mask.

You may order before Picture Day at mylifetouch.com and use Picture Day ID: EVTXDWBRP

Please note that Picture Day is optional and not required. The pictures taken will be used for the CVPS Yearbook, class composite pictures, and for family memories. If you do not want to have your picture taken, please still enter through Door 15 to obtain your materials in the gymnasium.

As a CVPS Cyber Academy student, you also have the option of submitting a picture of your child on a solid background. Please note that these photos will be used for the Yearbook, but, as of now, cannot be used for the Class Composite picture. Please complete this Google Form if interested in submitting your own picture.

Technology Help
The Primary School has a Technology page for families. Once there, you will find a variety of helpful documents, videos, and other information to help you to navigate the technology aspects within our school. Please click here to read the important updates that were published on August 26 including the charges that may be assessed if there is any damage to the district-owned devices or if they end up missing.

If you or your child are experiencing a technology concern beyond what is available on the Technology page, please email technology@cvsd.net stating your child’s full name, grade and the issue you are experiencing. Our technology team is working around the clock to support our students, families and staff!

iPads
We are reminding students to protect their iPad in their backpack by placing their red folder in front of their device to help keep the screen safe. We appreciate you reminding them to do the same.
If your child has not yet received their iPad, please be certain that you have completed the correct iPad Agreement Form:
iPad Agreement form (for cyber students)
iPad Agreement form (for hybrid students)
For hybrid students, teachers can give the iPad to your child after the agreement has been signed. This may take 1 or 2 days to occur. If for any reason you need to pick up your child’s device, please call the main office prior to arriving at school.

Start with Hello!
The Primary School will be participating in Start with Hello THIS WEEK September 21-25! The Start with Hello initiative is all about eliminating feelings of social isolation in students.

There are three simple steps to starting with hello:
1. See Someone Alone
2. Reach Out and Help
3. Say Hello

This initiative not only helps with feelings of social isolation but it also promotes various social skills including identifying emotions of others and promoting positive social interactions. Click here for more information.

We encourage all students and staff members to wear a green shirt on Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday to show their support of the Start with Hello initiative!

Attendance
Both Hybrid and CV Cyber students must submit attendance on remote learning days using Infinite Campus. Click here for instructions, or click here for a video tutorial. If a Hybrid or CV Cyber student is unable to complete school work on a remote learning day, the student will be marked absent. Hybrid students who are absent on in-person days may either choose to work remotely (if healthy enough to do so), or receive an excused/unexcused absence (documentation must be provided for absence to be excused).

Masks
Please remember that face masks should be washed on a regular basis. We have disposable masks available for any child, if needed, but it is important that children come to school with a clean and safe face covering.

UPDATE: Birthday Celebrations
We know how exciting birthdays are for children. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, unfortunately we are unable to allow students to distribute any items for birthdays or other occasions. Thank you for understanding.

Afternoon Pick-Up
If you are planning to pick up your child in the afternoon, you must complete the Online Pick Up form before 1:30 that day. We have twice as many students being picked up this year than normal. Completing the form prior to 1:30 will help us to ensure the safety of your child. We appreciate your support with this.

Google Meets
All students will be offered the opportunity to participate in Google Meets as part of our online learning platform. Students are NEVER required to attend a Google Meet with any of their teachers. Our teachers will offer many Google Meets throughout the year. If you miss one (or 5!), please don’t worry. There will never be new instruction provided and teachers will not be sharing pertinent information during the Google Meets. Please review the Google Meet Permission Letter and Form. If you do not want your child to participate in Google Meets, please complete the form.

Still need help?
There are a few questions that may come up throughout the school year that may be addressed simply by viewing the CVPS Concerns & Who to Call page.
