South Florida Business & Wealth Features Education to Employment

Recently, South Florida Business & Wealth (SFBW), featured an article "Education to Employment," that highlights the impact Junior Achievement of South Florida is having on today's youth. SFBW sat down with Aquilla Sample-Williams, Winifred Thompson and Stefano Selorio to learn about their JA experiences, most specifically in high school programs, JA Career Bound and JA Fellows, and how they helped to empower and prepare them for work. The article also appeals to South Florida businesses to get involved and invest in developing the future workforce through internships.

Volunteer of the Year Mark Koblick Always Rolls Up His Sleeves at JA!

Mark Koblick,
JA Volunteer of the Year
In 2009, the Marti Huizenga Roll Up Your Sleeves Awards were created to thank our volunteers and partners for their service and dedication. This special award recognizes individuals, groups and corporations for their dedicated time and commitment to Junior Achievement of South Florida. The award is named in honor of Marti Huizenga, who embodied the true meaning of rolling up your sleeves.

After retiring from the insurance and video rental business, Mark has dedicated his time to his family and giving back to the community.

Mark began volunteering at JA in October of 2015 and since has dedicated more than 500 hours enriching the lives of the students we serve. He spends most of his time with the 8th grade students in JA Finance Park, and his favorite storefront is Publix. Mark also has recruited several new JA volunteers. "Volunteering at JA World is a perfect fit," he said.

Seeking Mentors to Teach JA in Classrooms

"A mentor is a brain to pick, an ear to listen, and a push in the right direction." - John C. Crosby

You can help young people in your community to develop the competence, confidence and character needed in school, work and life by teaching Junior Achievement in the classrooms.

Through fun and interactive lessons, JA's classroom programs offer the opportunity to share your personal experience and professional knowledge with local elementary, middle and high school students. Help them identify their future goals and own their economic success!

Training and curriculum are provided and lessons vary upon grade level. Travel stipends are available in May!

Thank You SunTrust for your
Continuous Commitment to JA

We would like to give a huge "Thank You" to our friends from SunTrust Foundation for their generous contribution of $195,000.  SunTrust is proud to be a storefront partnership in JA Finance Park.

Also, each year SunTrust hosts a volunteer day. This year, we welcomed 40 volunteers who had the opportunity to see firsthand the impact Junior Achievement has on students in the community. Thanks to the support of SunTrust and other major donors, Junior Achievement of South Florida continues to educate the youth about entrepreneurship, financial literacy and work readiness.
