Caring for Aurora's streets is essential
Aurora's annual roadway maintenance programs are designed to provide safe travel conditions throughout the city and preserve the city's investment in roadway infrastructure through cost-effective measures. The city is responsible for 1,280 miles of road stretching across over 160 square miles of land area.

In 2019, workers overlayed 70.4 lane miles to help maintain the structural integrity of city streets through patching, milling and paving two to three inches of new asphalt. An additional quarter mile of roadway was completely reconstructed, which rebuilds the road from the ground up. Through this work, more than 72,000 tons of asphalt was laid last year and more than 175,000 linear feet of striping occurred. Additional work is completed annually through surface treatments, like sealing small cracks in the pavement surface to seal out moisture, and maintenance of curbs, gutters and sidewalks.

The $21.1 million roadway maintenance programs for 2020 will start in April and run through November, with some additional work happening year-round. The new annual schedule will be posted on the city's website closer to the start date. Weekly updates are posted year-round.

Residents can help us maintain roadways by reporting issues, such as potholes, sweeping needs, drainage issues and damaged concrete. For more information, visit the website or call 303.326.8200.

Each December, the city of Aurora honors local businesses that go above and beyond. In 2019, five businesses and one individual joined the 68 others that have been honored since the city’s Business Recognition Awards event began in 2005.

Each of the award winners are being profiled in This Is Aurora.

The fifth recipient is Pet Palace : Every pet is treated like royalty at Pet Palace, a mainstay in a shopping center at South Parker Road and Quincy Avenue since 1993. The company provides stellar customer service (to both people and pets), with a vast amount of knowledge gained over nearly three decades and hard-to-find, competitively priced products. To give back to the Aurora community, Pet Palace regularly hosts adoption and foster events in partnership with local animal shelters, and donates gift baskets to schools. An annual pet costume contest with prizes in October and Santa photos in December with proceeds benefiting the Aurora Animal Shelter are customer favorites.

The Aurora Business Recognition Awards are hosted by the city's Business Advisory Board and organized by the Development Services Division, with support from the Aurora-South Metro Business Development Center.
