Good things happen everyday at The Silver Academy!
Mrs. Lindsay Hameroff, Lead Teacher
Yesterday, our 8th graders traveled to the Capitol to represent The Silver Academy in the 2018 Teach PA Mission to Harrisburg and the EITC Birthday Rally. Silver students were among hundreds of young people who came out to represent independent schools across Pennsylvania, in order to meet with legislators and advocate for educational choice. As representatives of Teach PA, The Silver Academy also joined other Jewish day schools to show our commitment to Jewish education, to say thank you to our legislators, and to ask for their continued support.
Our first stop upon arrival was a meeting with Cheryl Brooks, a legislative assistant from the office of Representative Patty Kim. Representative Kim is a strong advocate of the EITC program, a tax credit program that allows businesses and individuals to donate to a scholarship organization for private school students. EITC plays an invaluable role in the continued success of The Silver Academy, and it was exciting for students to have the chance to personally meet with legislators who support this program. Eighth graders gathered around a conference table to explain what they love most about Silver, and share how attending Jewish day school has played a significant role in shaping who they are as individuals. It was truly touching to hear them talk about how meaningful it is for them to go to a school their older siblings and parents have attended. They demonstrated hakarat hatov (gratitude) for the support our representatives have already given to EITC, and respectfully asked the EITC to continue supporting our school.
At noon, we joined the other schools for a rally on the Capitol steps. Silver students were asked to lead the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, which was unexpected but thrilling honor. Afterwards, our students introduced themselves to Otto Banks, Executive Director of the REACH Foundation, and leader of the rally. Then, we joined other day schools on the front lawn for lunch.

It was a great honor to be a part of such an important cause, and we are proud of how thoughtfully and articulately eighth graders represented our school. Kol Hakavod , Silver Academy!

A Peek Inside Our Classrooms
First Grade Hebrew
Mrs. Alla Fligelman (Morah Alla)

Wednesday was a very special day for our First Grade students. They received their first Siddur (prayer book)! From the very beginning of the school year, little by little, we learned the prayers. More importantly, our class came to understand that we have a special relationship with Hashem, and that the prayers guide us in many ways in our everyday life.

The celebration was joyful and full of songs, dance and prayers! For the first time, students opened their Siddur and recited the prayer of Ashrei. It was heartwarming to see the kids excitement while sharing their new Siddur with their parents and grandparents! Of course, there was a special cake and refreshments for everyone to enjoy.
