Greetings CASC'ers,
We are thrilled to introduce two new professors to CASC, Abigail Eiler and Justin Hodge who are teaching SW 305 this semester.
Abigail Eiler is a clinical social worker in the Department of Family Medicine's Ambulatory Care Unit at the University of Michigan Health System, a field instructor for MSW interns, and a medical social worker for United Home Health Services with a goal to improve health outcomes for patients who are homebound per Medicare guidelines. Clinical Assistant Professor Justin Hodge promotes socially just policies through his engagement in governmental and political organizations.

UM Summer Enrichment Program (SEP)
SEP is an 8-week summer internship program for undergraduate students committed to eliminating racial, ethnic and socioeconomic health disparities. SEP has been placing students in health care organizations in Southeast Michigan.

Honors Summer Fellowship Application
Honors Summer Fellows will be brought together in an interdisciplinary cohort for 10 weeks in Ann Arbor during the summer months. Fellows will spend most of this time engaged in full-time pursuit of their thesis project. T
he Fellows program provides a unique opportunity for a group of upper class students to gather from across all three divisions of LSA; the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Students are eligible for a summer research stipend. Deadline is January 27th. Learn more here and apply!
CASC Community Art Installation
In order to inspire engagement, reflection, and and community, a group of CASC minor students and staff are organizing to create an art piece that reflects the expeirences of students in the minor. As a part of the creation of an art piece, we need your feedback. Take five minutes to share your expierence in the minor, what "CASC" means to you, and what your thoughts on a dynamic piece to add to the space, by completing the google doc below.

CASC-MSW Preferred Admissions Program
Students pursuing a Community Action and Social Change (CASC) minor may apply to the Office of Student Services (OSS)
in the School of Social Work for the Preferred Admission Program leading to a Master of Social Work (MSW) as early as their junior year.

Leah Lakshmi: LGBTQ Health and Wellness Week Keynote Speaker
The U-M Spectrum Center Presents: Dialoguing with Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha. Leah is the Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha (she/they) is a queer disabled nonbinary femme writer and cultural worker of Burger/Tamil Sri Lankan and Irish/Roma ascent. In 2010, she was named one of the Feminist Press' 40 Feminists Under 40 Shaping the Future, and she is a 2013 Autostraddle Hot 105 member.

LAS Cafeteras
On February 20th the Michigan Theater will Las Cafeteras. Born and raised east of Los Angeles, the six-piece band is remixing roots music and telling modern-day stories. They create a vibrant musical fusion with a unique East LA sound and positive message, a mix-and-match of styles and sources that deliver socially conscious lyrics in both English and Spanish.

Health Equity High School Summit
The summit's mission is to introduce high school students to the discipline of public health and health disparities. As a Small Group Facilitator, your role will consist of working with a small group (~6) of high school students for the entire duration of the summit.

2019 Summer Youth Dialogues on Race and Ethnicty in Metro-Detroit
U-M students (undergraduate and graduate) are invited to become a
University of Michigan Social Justice Fellow
to join an educational team and facilitate the
Summer Youth Dialogues on Race and Ethnicity in Metropolitan Detroit Program (SYD)
in an extended program.
Fellows will have the opportunity to enroll in a for-credit social work mini-course (1 c.u.) on intergroup dialogue and social justice, and a for-credit facilitation support / engaged learning experience (3 c.u.) during the Spring-Summer terms.
IGR minor program students can count their course credit to their elective courses requirement in the minor. IGR minor students who have questions about fulfilling their minor requirements should contact

Youth Volunteer Corp Program
The YVC of the Ann Arbor Y is part of an international network of programs that offers teens (ages 11-17) the opportunity to improve their world through volunteering. YVC mobilizes diverse groups of youth volunteers from across the community to engage in meaningful service-learning projects through collaboration with local non-profit agencies. The YVC of the Ann Arbor Y is a youth-driven volunteer program for young community activist who are interested in leading social change through challenging, rewarding and educational service learning projects. The American Indian Foundation (AIF) Clinton Fellowship
AIF's Clinton Fellowship is an immersive volunteer service program training and placing young professionals to support development organizations in India. CRCC Asia 2019 Inclusion Initiative Scholarship

Luce Scholars Program 2019-2020
Boren Fellowship are awarded to graduate students for the purpose of overseas language study, academic study, research (either Master's or Ph.D. level), an academic internship, or any combination of the above.
